It's a fantastic album. I haven't liked her last couple of releases, but this one is great. She worked with Guy Sigsworth who's known for his work with Frou Frou, Imogen Heap and Madonna("What it Feels like for a Girl"). He really took Alanis to a new level.

I gotta agree that Guy brought something out of her.
There are some great melodies on some of the mellower stuff like "In Praise of The Vulnerable Man" and "Incomplete". |

Not yet heard it but im gonna pick it up next week. It's got the best reviews since her debut, though her other stuff has been rewarding. Her influence on a lot of female artists today is becoming more apparent as time is passing.

Her influence? You mean Sinead's influence that was watered down by Alanis?
and what's up with today's album cover artist? have they all been executed or something? this cover is hateful. Space for sale...

Its her best record IMO, along with the new Jewel record, two very strong records from Female artists, June and July are shaping to be a VAST improvement over the early months of this year "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I haven’t heard the album, only the single but I like her enough to buy it without hearing it. I’ve been waiting for new material for awhile so I’m looking forward to it. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Does she still write the worst lyrics of all time or has she had a quiet word with herself...? This is not an exit

This is good news. Does Guy Sigsworth play on the album? I like his keyboard work. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

yeah that was my problem with her after her debut album. most of her songs sound like she writes a poem or a lyric and then just makes the music fit around that. and somehow it makes the whole thing less than exciting. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I love all her music! I love her voice, I love her lyrics and anger/image Plus Kevin Smith always uses her in his movies and that always makes me think of the best time of the 1990's - Indie Films - Grundge - Mid 1990's

It's funny because she was probably the greatest mainstream lyricist of the '90s so her descent in the '00s was a pretty spectacular one. The lyrics to "All I Want" are just incredible. Speaking strictly about lyrics, she was leagues above Kirt Cobain for instance. Unfortunately she lived long enough to tarnish her reputation with the crap she started putting out subsequently. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

[Edited 5/27/08 8:34am] That's another area where she's declined. In recent years her vocal delivery has become so affected. It makes me cringe. I don't think she's aware of it though, because if she was she could fix it in a second. On the plus side though, I think her looks are actually improving with the years. She's becoming quite a sexy 30 something. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

That douchebag Ryan Reynolds probably contributed more artistically to this album just by being a dumbass than he ever will in his own career as an actor.

This album's really great but short on ballads. I wonder why they were all relegated to bonus track status. "Orchid", "Madness" and "Limbo no More" are great ballads. And "On the Tequila" is simply the most fun song Alanis ever did. [Edited 5/29/08 8:35am]
