I don't know why but listening to these clips gave me goosebumbs. This is such French sentiment. I had flashbacks of myself with a large baguette under my arm and le tour Eiffel behind me.
I really think I have been born before and it must have been in France, probably Paris. I even had a French dream as a kid.

Here´s a duo with Charlotte Gaingsbourg, IF

This is a typical example of real French music, I really like this!
The soft sexy raw voices. Almost whispering while having sex. The women in a childish manner, like Vanessa Paradis and Mylene Farmer, they never grow old and the men in an erotic raw manner, like "let me take you now, gently on this couch"

I've been to her grave a few times actually. But then that's because she's buried at Père-Lachaise in Paris like so many other famous people.

I've recently discovered Charles Aznavour (since hearing Marc Almond do a cover version of his song Yesterday When I was Young). Aznavour's songs are great;every one has a story behind it.

He is in his 80's and still on tour.

Haven't been at her grave, only Jim Morrisson's. Père-Lachaise is awesome, have been there a few times. One time we spent hours there, it was so impressive.
Hope to visit it again in the future.

Keep them coming your choices. It's so much fun to listen to it and interesting to hear all your different preferences.

And this came to mind, I like this song also
Julien Clerc - this melody

And this was a hit here years ago, too much rap imo but still a good melody.

La Question is an album by Francoise Hardy. A brazilian friend of her (a woman) recorded the album with her, I think her name was Tuca or something like that. This is Hardy's best album, its very quiet, very intimate.

Polnareff's is an album by Michel Polnareff, see some (very enthusiastic) reviews here: http://rateyourmusic.com/...olnareffs/

I still have not heard the SG & JB album, still a lot to discover for me!

That one isn't bad. It's got Serge's biggest hit on it of course, but I don't love the album all the way through like Melody Nelson.

Have you heard the collab between Jane Birkin and Leslie Feist "Simple Story"? It's really lovely on the ears....makes you want to go out and buy a baguette and wine or something... before you go meet a troublesome lover for an illicit rendezvous falloff

Right off the top of my head, a general mix of French artists I listen to, all eras and genres:

Edith Piaf

Manu Chau

Brigitte Fontaine

Zouzou

MC Solar

Les Nubians

Carla Bruni

Magma

Jean Jaques Goldman

and of course Serge Gainsbourg

and the British born, but French adored Jane Birkin

I don't know that one. hmmm

A co-worker recently introduced me to the solo work of Brigitte Bardot. I never knew any of her songs beyond the duets with Serge.
