My favorite song from her debut album!!!! Kashif supplied Whitney with some excellent material....

"just like a river of wine, you intoxicate my mind
I'm thinking about you (that's what I wanna do yeah)
Pick me up...let's go down
I'm thinking about it too"

I once suggested that Vainandy go back and listen to this song lol It's the one Whitney Houston song that he might like (since he likes other uptempo Kashif productions).

I think I own all of Whitney's albums (studio albums, non of the soundtracks since I have both versions of the "Greatest Hits" which covers the bulk of that) expect her first. Just strange that I don't. Kind of surprising that Kashif gave her a funky track more than her being funky. I'm sure he has some nice funk in his background, but everything I know him for is very light R&B. His duet with Dionne Warwick, "Reservations For Two", comes to mind.

I forgot about this one.

Had flashbacks to reading the title on the back of the cassette panel with Whitney in a bathing suit.

I'd call it midtempo not funky.

nod Really strange when you consider it's easily her best.

Mmhmm nod

I've been trying to track down her pre-85 material though. She recorded ALOT of songs between 79 and 85(considering that she was a session singer) and I intend to find 'em all.

I recently found out that "Someone For Me" was actually the first single from this album.I never knew this.It bombed and they quickly released "You Give Good Love" which became a massive hit.

It's kind of sad that Clive Davis try so hard to promote Whitney as a pop artist that he never allow her vocals to be use on a serious funk track.

When I say "serious funk track", I mean Clive should have pay Rick James, Roger Troutman, Larry Blackmon, or even Kool & The Gang to give Whitney at least 2 uptempo tracks for her debut album.

Oh and I got mixed up with the giggle. Whit mutters sexyily like she's kinda drunk "I don't know why I do it, I just do." Credit for the sexy giggle goes to Janet.

BTW, the 12 of "SE" was released with that god-awful pic with Kevin Costner. It was the centerpiece of her performance in that movie-that-will-go-unmentioned.

Decent song but not one of my favorites from Evelyn. I'm more into stuff like "I'm In Love" or "Action".

He's an old money hungry troll but I don't completely blame him because she was a grown woman and had a mind of her own (supposedly). She could have easily put her foot down if he was making her do something she didn't want to do because she had several music connections in her own family such as Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick that could have helped her get a deal somewhere else if he dropped her. Not to mention, that she had already previously recorded with Jermaine Jackson and Teddy Pendergrass. Little miss goodie goodie wanted to do weak shit because she wanted not only the black sales, but the white sales, the kid sales, and the senior citizen sales. She was the all American "girl next door" that rings your doorbell and asks to borrow a cup of sugar. Oh, she makes me sick. lol

She should have got with Prince or Rick and let them give her some hard funk and dress her up like a hooker. Well, the hooker part wouldn't look too good on her though with those chicken legs she has. lol

As soon as I logged on, as I looked at the page, that title was the first thing I saw in the middle of all the other threads. It stuck out at me like Rick James being a video store to rent a DVD and, out of all the other DVDs in the store, "Purple Rain" is the first thing he sees. lol
