DONNY HATHAWAY-"EXTENSION OF A MAN"-appreciation thread ive had this album for a while now and always appreciated it but you know when you almost receive an epiphany from some music and its like
this album is simply stunning and of course its magnum opus is someday we'll all be free made ven more resonant by what happened next-reading the liner notes it seems the song was written with donny's mental status in mind- the whole album is so sublime-from the opening musical i love the lord ,he heard me cry through to the ode for the beautiful prostitutemagdalene for me donny is a bit like PRINCE Ifeel lucky just to be around an age when i can listen to this music.

Donny Hathaway is such a great artist and I have to agree that this album is simply beautiful. All the songs you mention are great , but I also love the songs "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know" , "Flying Easy" , and "I Know It's You".

great pick!!! Currently my all-time favorite album!!!! You can really feel the influence of a wide spectrum of music--from classical through soul, gospel, blues, jazz, funk and pop--all on one album...IMO, definitely his finest hour!! ... I've loved this album for a long time. I think it's aged well, too, and I think that's due in part to the arrangements. They're pretty complex (stemming, I'm sure, from his classical background), but come across as very simple. Even if the music wasn't as good as it is, his voice would still shine through. Classic and simple.
The only thing I don't like and never have is the artwork. It looks look one of those "Can you draw this turtle? If so you might be good for art school" ads that used to be in comic books when I was a kid.

Inspired by this thread, I listened to both 'Donny Hathaway' and 'Everything Is Everything' all the way through at work today It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.
