Diane Warren's written a whole mess of crap, but there are a few good ones in there. Rather, I should say she's written a few that I like. lol

I Get Weak - Belinda Carlisle
Don't Turn Around - Aswad
Love Will Lead You Back - Taylor Dayne
If I Could Turn Back Time and Just Like Jesse James - Cher (yeah, I like that shit)
Solitaire - Laura Branigan
Who Will You Run To - Heart
If You Asked Me To - Patti LaBelle

For me, the worst of the worst is:

Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now - Starship
When I See You Smile - Bad English
I Don't Want to Miss a Thing - Aerosmith
How Do I Live - that backwoods chick who looks inbred
How Can We Be Lovers - Michael Bolton
Rhythm of the Night - DeBarge

Yes, I took the time to look these up to make sure I wasn't talking through my butt. lol I knew there had to be some I liked. www.realsongs.com

I MIGHT be willing to give you the Belinda Carlisle song, simply on the merit of nostalgia. The rest....ill

I could not be more repulsed if you had posted links to a longer, "director's cut" of "Two Girls, One Cup". Both feature folks with crap in their mouths.

Once again I like your taste. I agree with your list.
I don't recall the Heart song though. If Nancy was singing it I'd have ignored it. Make that present tense also.
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

There's a director's cut? Where? Where? where?
LOL, surprised that earned a mention here but considering the topic is Michael Bolton I guess I shouldn't be.

You don't like "These Dreams"?

"Who Will You Run To" was from Bad Animals in 1987.

Wow. This is the best thread ever. How come when I makes threads about Diane Warren, no fucker replies LOL.

And as a few may remember, Iam a huge fan of Boltons. Dont by any means love everything he has done, but do love alot of it.

Bolton wasn't always MOR though.

His s/t album was like Journey but without Perry. "Everybodys crazy" was hair metal AOR, and had some good rock songs. Then he turned more soft rock again with "the hunger", taking in most of Journey with him as session musicians/co-writers etc.., then by "soul provider", he had fully commited himself to MOR/pop, and the rest was history....

then in 1997, still on Sony, he dropped his bomb album "all that matters", which is my fav Michael Bolton album. Here he enployed people like Tony Rich, Babyface, and Barry Eastmond to tone down his screeching, and deliver a more Babyface inspired soft rnb album. Ironically, his album is more rnb then Babyface's awfully wet "the day" album. Infact, "all that matters" is very consistant and I love it, and is probably in my top 20 of all time or whatever, but it totally got slept on....

Some key tracks outlining his change through the years

"Fools game" (if you hate this and love Journey then you are kidding yourself)

"Everybody crazy" (good mid 80's obnoxious/loud hair metal, dancerella might like this one, if she'd give it a try LOL)

"Wait on love" (Journey minus Perry, including Randy Jackson. Produced/co-written by Jonathan Cain. Love this sorta melodic AOR.)

And the rest is history.....

I cant stand his covers either. I can take "sittin' on the dock of the bay", but I still have not bought his covers album. His take on "lean on me" with Tower of Power is not bad though. Wish he had worked more with Michael Omartian and Robert Mutt lange, but Bolton always had excellent producers. Wally A, David Foster, Omartian, Eastmond. He picks great producers to work with, and thats his main strenth I think. That and Diane Warren of course.

Still dont get the people who love Mariah's "without you", and hate Boltons covers. I hate his covers too (generally), but if you love Careys soulless cover of "without you", then try Boltons covers album (which is no doubt hurrendous), also produced by Wally Affansief.
