I'll pick up Ask Rufus and Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan. Ill probably have to order it as its hardly likely ill find them in the UK. I've just bought Come 2 My House which ive heard is pretty good considering it was a Prince production in the late 90s. What about her solo stuff what is her strongest set of songs? Thanks!
[Edited 5/21/08 17:16pm]

Word of advice: wash your head clean of come2myhouse and funk this cuz those aren't indicative of her overall career. Love them but he early stuff is not the same.

ill

Hate that album..love the cover and inside photos

'Masterjam' is not quite the masterpiece that it could have been."Do You Love What You Feel" is the highlight and a few other songs are okay, but this album is missing something.I suspect that Quincy saved his best ideas for Michael Jackson's 'Off The Wall' album, which he also produced in 1979.

OOh just IMAGINE Chaka singing that whole album
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

"Rockin' & Rollin'" from
Confessions Of Fire (the 1st joint)?

love

how do you like "Twisted"?
I love "Pass It On (Sure Thing)" also
love how she puts that southern
twang on some of her words
(esp towards the end of THAT song
and of course "Best In The West")
that always drove me crazy razz

@Cin - just cue the choir
for "I'll Fly Away" (I'm so dead)
wow... I thought everyone
had heard Confessions Of Fire

once again the STAN in me

RAGS TO RUFUS through STREET PLAYER are all essential, then get the Live Savoy set. MASTERJAM is ok for a few tracks, but it sounds more like a Quincy Jones production.

Man... it's all about the "Naughty" album. In my opinion, this Chaka's finest solo work. You got "Clouds," "Move Me No Mountain," and "Hot Butterfly." This is a classic LP from top to bottom.

You know,I would have to agree with you.'What Cha Gonna Do For Me' would be a close second.

For me,'Come 2 My House' was a pleasant surprise.I enjoy it alot and I didn't think I would. It was recorded during Prince's uninspired late-90s New Power Soul phase...lol...but the album is strong throughout. The title track and the last song "Drama" are my favs.

WCGDFM is good
but I never got what
the big fuss was...

almost EVERY Chaka fan I know
considers that one the #1
I was not that fond of it upon first listen
I don't know why....
everything is superb there

my two absolute favorites from that wrecka
would be "Any Old Sunday" & "Fate"

I liked watching her peform
"I Know You, I Live You"
but other than the performance
the song is a bore to me boo

WCGDFM pales in comparison
to Chaka & Naughty IMHO
hell, Chaka Khan (1982) even...

I never did get the big
ruckus about that album

I know that Faith Evans (Faye)
mentioned it was the first album
she ever bought with her own money

Top-notch musically,,,,with the best session musicians. I think '81 was the busiest year for her(Camouflage w/Rufus, Echos Of An Era which was released the following year, the collaborations on other artist' albums).

It was the best attempt of her to make a "Jazz/Funk" record. Come to think of it, it was the ONLY successfull attempt hmmm

Guess thats why its such a big deal. I loved it because she sounded happy there.

I'm sorry I said "Fate"

I'm gonna play WCGDFM today
and listen like it was
my first time (which is gonna
be hard to do)...
I'm positive that I'm
missing something neutral

Damn, I have so many holes in my Chaka collection! disbelief

Missing:

  • I feel for you (have it, it's in storage though but don't have on my harddrive)
  • Chaka
  • Naughty
  • C.K (Same as I Feel For you, in storage not on HD)
  • Whatcha gonna do for me?
  • Stompin at the Savoy (in storage, not on HD)
  • Life is a Dance (in storage, not on HD)
  • Destiny (Hell, I don't even remember this lol )
  • Masterjam (in storage, not on HD)
  • Rufus disbelief !!!!!
  • Camoflage

Again, I say DAMN! disbelief !!!!! And I call myself a fan lol I got most of my collection through music shopping at music stores and the problem with her music is that stores don't generally stock 20/30 year old titles lol I did just get echoes and 82 titled Chaka Khan woot!

Yeah, that's my third favorite cut from the LP.

I wish I could live 1981 all over again. The music from that year was incredible.

You ain't lying! lol There's just something about that year.R&B artists,in particular, came out with some amazing stuff in 1981.I would wake up and literally listen to the radio all day long. The summer of '81 was incredible.I wish I could re-live that summer again.
