New Gnarles Barkley, Album Of The Year.

Another amazing slab by a group that just sound like nobody else. They take black music to a different level, but never sell out.

There is not one bad song, not one. In fact, the songs get better as you go along. Kind of like a little purple dude used to do.

I hope there is no needless discussion about that lol

I agree with you. This album is fantastic. The last album was a demonstration, to showcase abilities. This album is very fluid and cohesive. Love love LOVE that CeeLoh as branched off and is giving something other than rapping a try. They are fantastic together clapping

I liked the first one, but I just can't get into the Odd Couple. The songs just aren't there.

I feel exactly the opposite. I loved Crazy, ST. Elsewhere, Gone Daddy Gone Smiley Faces but thought the rest was pretty forgettable songwise.

Album of the year for who? Definately not me. I think Gnarles Barkley sucks. I don't like any of their songs.

nod Co-sign. The first album was interesting but a little uneven. This one is a consistently good listen.

I'm really late w/ these dudes. Didn't see the big deal about "Crazy" so I ignored the hoopla. BUT I caught their performance on SNL a few months ago & was impressed. They were nice on Live from Abbey Road too. I'll pick up both albums based on those. & I knew Cee-Lo's voice was great but I'd just never been that interested in his material before, they got me now though cool
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

Great album, but not, in my opinion the best of the year. It's probably still in my top 20, though.

It took me awhile to warm up to it, but I'm digging it now. No stand out track like "Crazy" but overall I think it's better than their first.

I don't really get the fuss. shrug I gave them a try, but the whole schtick (yes, I think it's schtick) with the crazy outfits and wigs feels contrived and only served to detract from my interest in their music. Then once I gave it a go, I still wasn't impressed. lol

I'd give best album thus far
to New Amerykah Pt. One

The Odd Couple is good though
took a while, and a nice number
of listens for me to get into the album
(outside of "Blind Mary" which
I loved from the moment I pushed play)

right now my favorite moment
is "Surprise" cool

and of course I love "Run"
and "Who's Gonna..."
"be who you are and say what you feel
because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."

Once you get past the "gimmick" of Gnarls Barkley, you realize that there isn't much there.

Like i REALLY wanted to like them after "Crazy". I ran out and bought the cd like everybody else. But then, i tried to find another song off of the album to play in my dj sets and realized THERE WEREN'T ANY.

And then i realized that i didn't like Gnarls Barkley as much as i liked the IDEA of them.

Seriously, beyond "Crazy" what have they done that you think is memorable?

It is album of the year thus far for me too. Love the atmosphere and lyrics they create together. Not many artist have crossed genres like they have been able to.

I actually liked Smiley Faces better than Crazy. Crazy was just lightning in a bottle. That is something that Cee Lo has done more than once. "Don't Cha" was penned by Cee Lo as well. Like the songs or not, kudos to him for writing two of the biggest, catchiest songs of the decade.

Gnarls is not for everyone, but the same could be said for many artist.

Crazy sounds like a Moby song.

I'm not a "fan" of GB but I have to say there is more substance to them than the one-hit wonder you suggest they are.

"Who Cares" had a great lyric, for example:

Basically I'm complicated
I have a hard time taking the easy way
I wouldn't call it schizophrenia
But I'll be at least 2 people today

If that's okay

And I can go on and on and on... but who cares?

It's deep how you can be so shallow
And I'm afraid cause I have no fear
And I didn't believe in magic
Until I watched you disappear

I wish you where here

And I can go on and on and on... but who cares?

You see, everybody is somebody
But nobody wants to be themselves
and If I ever wanted to understand me
I'll have to talk to someone else

Cause every little bit helps

And I can go on and on and on... but who cares?
This is not an exit

like liltalkm I DEFINITELY
prefer "Smiley Faces"
over "Crazy" anyday...

other favs were "Who Cares?"
"Transformer" <--great xtacy song
"Just A Thought" is brilliant

I actually like the full thing
I was going through my playlist
trying to see which songs
from St. Elsewhere I like
and I like them all in a way

"Feng Shui" was the first one
that I just fell in love with
(it was the beat mainly)

if you guys don't know by now
I'm a huge BEAT JUNKIE
"be who you are and say what you feel
because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."

I don't see what the big deal is about this group. Honestly most of the stuff on the new album sounds like background or scence lead in music for one of those CSI tv shows.
