OK, R&B/Black bands have already died out years ago, but are the R&B groups also becoming extincted? Since the 1950, R&B groups have been a staple in popular music. From groups like the Platters, Drifters, Flamingos, Little Anthony and the Imperials, ect in the '50s to the Tempts, Four Tops, Isleys, Delfonics, Intruders, ect in the '60s to the O'Jays, Jackson 5, Harold Melvin & the Blu-Notes, Dramatics in the '70s to DeBarge, New Edition, The Boys, ect in the '80s to Boyz II Men, Jodeci, 112, Jagged Edge, Immature in the '90s to ????? in the 2000s?


While most don't like B2K, they were probably the last R&B group I remember coming out and that was back in 2001, a long ass time ago.


What the fuxx happened?

People wanted more shit-hop.

What I see is a shift to promote performers as solo acts with faceless bands.

I think a lot of these singers would be more interesting as part of a band.

It is very strange. Seems like in the nineties they were as big as they were in the sixties....Then they got pop and white (Nysnc, Backstreet Boys...whatever). Any attempts to "create" this type of group (the names which invoked slapping) come off as more artificial and soulless than even the pop boybands! Looking back on it, Boyz II Men weren't that bad in comparison to what we have left.
