YEP! YEP! GUY 20th anniversary appreciation thread Twenty years ago today, "Groove Me" -- the debut single for this seminal New Jack Swing group -- was released. Producer/songwriter Teddy Riley, lead singer Aaron Hall and drummer/designated dancer Damion "Crazy Legs" Hall were one of the most dominant and influential acts in soul music in the late 1980s and early 1990s, between Riley's outside production works and the group's two chart-topping albums (each selling more than two million copies apiece). The group abruptly disbanded in 1991, but not before setting an indelible imprint on soul music. [Edited 5/19/08 18:35pm]

I wore this cassette out! Not a bad song on that debut album. The slow jams still can't be touched! Bye Bye Baby! I also want 2 thank U 4 reminding me that I'm getting older

One of my all-time favorites.
Groove Me 'Round and 'Round (Merry Go 'Round of Love) Teddy's Jam I Like Spend the Night From Do the Right Thing: My Fantasy Girl I like A piece of your love when you spend the night When you groove me everything is right Call me crazy 'cause I'm in a daze 'Round and 'round and then it pays To jam with Ted and the rest of Guy Had a love and I said goodbye Don't clap, just D-A-N-C-E with my fantasy "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Interesting that 2 of the non-singles became classics in their own right ("Piece of My Love" and "Goodbye Love"). "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Yeah, GUY was arguably my favorite act from that period. In addition to its self-titled debut, "The Future" was also another album packed with jams:
"Wanna Get with U:" "Let's Chill:" "Do Me Right:" Not one, but TWO slamming versions of "D-O-G Me Out:" "Let's Stay Together:" "Teddy's Jam II:" [Edited 5/19/08 19:33pm]

I never knew the exact dates for this albums release. Hiwever, for some reason this morning I put in my cassette tape with "Teddy's Jazz". Then right after that I found my cassette tape of Jodeci's clone, which is "I'm Still Waiting (jazz version)". I guess it been a New Jack Swing/ Uptown Rcords kind of day around here. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

I LOVE Guy and saw Aaron at an old school concert back in January (he REALLY needs to keep his shirt on at ALL times ) Don't forget his song I Miss You. I'll never forget how the girl died at the end of the video. I'm Still Waiting is also one of my faves from this period. I have the 12" single of this and was jamming that jazz version a few days ago.

They were obviously trying to duplicate the success of the "Come And Talk To Me" remix. But I digress. This thread is a tribute to Guy. I love a few cuts from the "Guy III" cd, particularly "Not A Day". I also love how Teddy's pun in paying homage to the late great Roger Troutman on "Teddy's Jam III". isn't amazing that these guys took music to another level? yet their career didn't last past 2 lp's but it helped music groups stay in the business longer than them? not after their break up, but the group itself couldn't outlast what they started. I have no regrets though, they were reaaly good. nipsy
