Supertramp - "Breakfast in America" It is my moral and divine obligation to bring this album up once a year. It's been more than that since I've done so here, so the time has come. It's one of my favorite albums (and one of the best pop/rock records of the 70s if you ask me), and I love every song on it. Love the way PT Anderson put Logical Song and Goodbye Stranger to good use in Magnolia. Goodbye Stranger - peaked #15 in 1979 Take the Long Way Home - peaked #10 in 1979 (solo Roger Hodgson performance clip from 2006) The Logical Song - peaked #6 in 1979 Breakfast in America - peaked #16 in 1980 (can't recall the name of the group that butchered/sampled this song last year or so) album art edit [Edited 5/20/08 6:06am]

Couldn't stop playing it back then.
Still love it after all these years. I have it in my CD changer and I'm gonna play it now What happened in 1979? Albums had a totally different sound from just a year before. Was it digital recording? Multitrack studios? Both?

Love it! Who else would it be? Others respond, but I'm the only one that brings these suckers up.

True, every song is a good one. I remember when it was released. I didn't get into it until I heard The Logical Song, then realized all these songs I liked were on the same album. Keep bringing it up once a year. Good stuff. Thanks for the smile the memories bring. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Was it digital recording? Multitrack studios? Both? As far as I know digital recording was just starting at that time and it wasn't widespread until the mid-80s..... Even big artists like Queen resisted recording in digital until the late-80s when the technology was getting better. And bands were recording to 24-track tape already by that time. My guess is that it was just a matter of record producers changing the way instruments sounded by mic-ing them differently, using different types of room ambience and maybe more high-tech studio gear. Oh, and I love the singles from that album. I'm currently more into vinyl than CDs so I might just buy that album this weekend if I can find it used at a fair price.
