What did you all think of Jordan Knight's 'I Could Never Take The Place...'?

OK, I'm probably gonna get grilled for this, but I quite like it. I always think there's absolutely no point in recording a cover version unless you're going to attempt to make it different from the original.

So he's an ex-member of one of the most ridiculed teeny boy bands in recent memory, but he can actually sing. And for a supposed flop piece of trash, the album isn't half bad for throwaway pop. I recommend the track 'Change My Ways'.

Heavenly

there's nothing special about this version. at least Prince shows his talents, what's there to show in this version?
A waste of time, IMO neutral

It gets the shun from Prince fans. The stigma of him being a former New Kid On The Block is too much to overcome.

I've never liked the song in the first place.

I liked it better than the original version, but it's not the kind of thing I'd run out to buy. It just seems to me turning it into a ballad lends the song a more honest interpretation lyrically.

Oh, how I will be slayed for saying that.

Say it with me, Dansa, Da horror!

Not at all. I DON'T like the song, but I like Jordan's interpretation better. I've always said this when it's brought up.

It sucked! Didn't someone tell him that you can't perfect perfection or redo it. Prince's masterpieces cannot be tampered with...ever! Prince songs are made for Prince only. Plain and simple.

Go listen to those two songs, please. They are REALLY good.
They sound like the stuff that made me wanna dance to Prince's music...
And he's got a GOOD voice. It is just his image that sucks.

LISTEN WITHOUT PREJUDICE.

But, like I said; the rest is muzac; don't go there.

Gooey puts on A DIFFERENT PARTY and dances across the room

It is THAT good...

I liked "Give It To You" (Produced and written by Jam&Lewis) also but nothing else I heard from him hit me, that includes the dull slowed down Prince cover.

But A Different Party is also produced by Jam & Lewis and has a James Brown sample.

And it has Jordan saying "Jimmy Jam!" in almost the same way as Morris used to do during concerts, after which Jimmy Jam gives one hell of an synth solo.
Believe me, these two songs are GRRREAT.
I bet Prince is jealous of them both...BELIEVE me.
