OR he saw a product he could market not that there's anything wrong with that And the reason he thought he could market her is because of the talent, potential, looks and etc. Like I said before, she brought enough to the table as a product, or whatever you choose to call it, to be successful. It just wouldn't work any other way. Studiotraffic-One of the fastest ways to get payed on the net!

It's one of my favoirte lines ever. I stole it from the Julie Brown Madonna parody "Medusa Dare To Be Truthful". For years I assumed it was Julie (as the character "Medusa") who said it. However, it was the Sandra Bernhard-esque character that says it (not sure the name of the actress, but nobody "known" although a younger and very thin Donal Logue played her Sean Penn-ish ex). Julie is obviously very generous as a comedienne/writer. I just bought it on DVD. I found this great Hollywood which is slowly trying to get rid of all their videos (they have them in the rent rakes but don't advertise that you if you want to buy them, it is the same price as a rental).

Dance said: dragondayz said: Hmm..If so many mainstream artists came out with a Fallin, A Womans Worth, an If I Ain't Got You, a Stolen Moments, then she wouldn't be so popular. She's better than most mainstream artists, and just as good as a lot of underground artists, especially when you add in the fact that she's a good live performer. Not too many of her peers can do what she does in the studio let alone on the stage.
Are you part of her marketing team? I'm joking, anyway, Mister Keys is a packaged, pop artist. He leans on samples. He can't write. He can't sing. He can't play. He can not jam at all. If you stick any random pop tart behind a piano, show them a couple things, throw together some sample heavy songs with lyrics so trite they seem computer generated, slap together a few videos featuring all the tired, fake "urban" imagery you can come up with, and get the chick to do certain things in front of an audience like a trained animal, add water and a fake blaccent you get Alicia Keys. NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT. [Edited 5/18/08 17:31pm] Another unbelievably boring and generic post courtesy of the ever original (lol!) Dance. "women suck!" "music sucks!" "shit hop!" "shit hop again!" "no one is talented!" "did i say shit hop?" "women suck!!" "[insert mysogynistic, homophobic, racist, sexist etc name calling here]" Seriously. I think it's time for a new act, Dance. Try "accepting". You'll find you'll end up a lot happier.

Props to Alicia. Well damn, lol.

I quite liked her version when it first came out.
Over time though I realized every adlib or decorative piano melody was copied so I mightas well grab the Girl 6 soundtrack and listen to Prince's original if I need that song in my life. Don't really care for Stephanie Mills' version.

Erm The industry isn't really checking for talent. They look for the right look, story, or scrap of a story. Then they take care of the rest. It's like making any other product and Mister Keys was the right base. All they had to do was tack shit on and pull the strings. Then they got lucky. It was the right time and they had the right person and prop. They could give a damn about talent or music. They want to sell cars, clothes, food, and etc. NOT CDs and tickets.

I was about to say....You might be alone in that thinking. I think many people are just sort of fed up with Alicia Keys around here for whatever reason. I don't think this is a bad cover, but it's just sort of there like "If I Don't Have You". It just sort of lays there like a bored hooker! I see. I was fed up with her a few months ago(disappointed with AIA) but I'm about to see her in concert soon so I'm getting excited, plus it seems like she puts on a good show. I still think she has a great amount of potential.. way too much for me to ever give up on her...but I guess I can understand how others feel towards her. I still say she's one of the best mainstream artists out. You will totally enjoy her show. She’s an outstanding performer. I saw her here in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl. She gave an outstanding performance. Alicia Keys is very sexy lady and a hard act 2 follow.

You don't have The Hits/The B-Sides? Don't really care for Stephanie Mills' version.
That's my preferred cover version. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Some head of a label would have cashed in the same way Clive did a long time ago, but they haven't, and you wonder why? I'm reading in this thread where people are saying she's a great performer. Nice songs, nice voice, good performer, good looks. All of this obviously mean something and equals her success. Studiotraffic-One of the fastest ways to get payed on the net!

That's my preferred cover version. Mine 2. Stephanie NAILED her version. It it bluesy and soulful. Alicia's was ok, but not as good as Stephanie's. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-
