Unheralded Funk Jams---Wood, Brass & Steel - "Funkanova" ...
"Funkanova"--- One of the unheralded Funk Jams of the 70's --Kats used to play this track from the 1:49 point in the tune, and people would leap onto the dancefloor, headlined by Bassist Doug Wimbish and Guitarist Skip McDonald, Wood Brass & Steel would later morph into Sugarhill's house band, and later into the Funk/Rock group, Tackhead.... ... I think the problem is that they were on such a small label(Turbo Records). If they had been with a larger label with some promotion, I think this thing would have charted! ... " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

Turbo Records was a part of the Stang/All platinum labels ran by Sylvia Robinson hence why they became the house band. they were always working at 96 west street in Jersey

SugarHill being the youngest of the labels the oldest being "Stang,Turbo,Vibration,Sweet Mountain,SugarHill". that is kinda sorta the order of the labels

sorry about the extra post up there. okay, now it all makes sense. if anyone remembers a song called palm of her hand (sounded like jesse johnson, came out in the eighties). I can't think of the guy's name at the moment, but he says he played with the houseband for sugarhill. Syliva was so low key with her successes.
thanks for the responses. it is sad that the inde or small labels put out the greatest music. nipsy
