Nasal yelling, moaning, and groaning is NOT singing.

NAY to that industry hop and anyone like her.

I saw that James Brown duet too. What was impressive was that it was totally unrehearsed, and yes, she did pretty good. There is something there, but it's just buried under a whole load of nonsense. Even on the JB duet there were moments when she was giddy as hell, and running about the stage, all overexcited. Not professional at all.

Sadly, the ego-boosting lifestyle she's leading means she's destined to get more annoying as the years go by and never develop into what she did have the potential to be, i.e. a real contender. She would have always needed good guidance and the right surroundings to do that, and the chances of her ever getting it were always small. Now she's way too far gone. It's safe to write her off. I did it a while ago. She's done.

I saw her too and i saw her during a festival she was too giddy and had no stage presence she just skipped and jumped around like a rabbit. Around the time she was starting out the media were forcing us to like her and called her the soul voice of the 21st century.

Her age has nothing to do with it

American Idol contestants are better than her look at Paris Bennet that girl is amazing! She is younger than her by a couple of years she was a pure natural. She was a underrated contestant but put her next to Joss and blow her out like next year.
[Edited 5/17/08 12:23pm]

Like I think I said before, she got worse as she got bigger. Her head swelled and she started to get way too giddy and overexcited on stage and off. I am always cynical about these hyped up artists and for that reason my expectations were low when I first heard about her in 2003, but when I finally saw her perform I was impressed. She was great. Her accent was slightly strange, but she had charisma to burn. I don't know what the hell happened after that. If I had just seen her from late 2004 onwards then there wouldn't even be a hint of positivity in my comments because by then she'd morphed into an over-inflated poser, and her vocal cords started to get damaged from too much yelling. Also she started writing her own material and it was all shit. She simply isn't a good enough songwriter to be writing her own stuff.

I only ever saw one series of American Idol and there was no one on it who was any good, so I'll have to take your word for it that there were some major talents there, but remember, shining on American Idol is not the same as shining out there on the wider stage.

That's true but regarding Joss it is not so much her change in accent i could care less she is just hyping herself way too much. Remember too she is constant complainer and she she slammed Christina Milan for no apparent reason and called Beau Dozier a rapist even though se went with him when she was seventeen. She fired Betty Wright the woman who made her became her guardian.

No, I meant the accent she has when she sings, lol. It's never been quite right. As for the other things, well yeah, she's out of control, but that's what happens when you take a 14 year old and put them on the musical conveyor belt. That's how old she was when they shipped her off to America to milk their potential cash cow for all it was worth.

That's right she sounds American when she sings.

She is deep south English girl from Devon but why does try to use African American accent when she is singing.

Instead of her saying you she says jou She is so busy trying to sound like an Aretha Franklin.

Teena Marie never did that

Just keep on your prophylactics on cause these starfucking golddiggers are looking for bellyfuls to sustain them when their careers don't get their foot in the door of the biz. Absoultely it seems like Stone is creating this image just to make some money and attention what makes her more non belivable is that she is really a posh girl but she is pimping this soul sista urban girl image.

There was an interview in local UK newspaper with Joss Stone saying that she just accidentally got into soul and decided to sing it. The reason why she became a soul singer was to pay for a horse named Freddy she said in a television interview. Which changed my whole perspective on her.

Whaaaaatt?! .....A horse named Freddy?...

Her songwriting is overrated the songs don't make sense especially in her last album she said Introducing Joss Stone is like a diary and i could not comprehend the meaning behind the album. She said her newfound love is Music so what don't we all love music.

She stalked Lauryn Hill for two months just so she can be on her album.

Undoubtedly, your remarks stem from rumors started by Dallas Austin. He defamed her on Youtube her and then backpedalled on those comments like the punk he truly is.

You know, ugh.
I really, really liked her first album. And since i work for the record company i got to meet her and she was such a sweet, down to earth girl. very very, young of course but very sweet.

And then the second album came out, and i liked it less than the first.

And then the third album came out, and i had a chance to hang out with her again. And she was so fucking not the person she was. Jaded, full of herself, ugh.

And now it's hard for me to even want to listen to her. Like i made a slow, "go to sleep" cd the other day and i was going to put her Isley Brothers cover from the first cd on there and decided not to because her voice annoys me now.

I just with she did more cutting edge, neo soul leaning stuff instead of trying to become Mariah Carey when her voice is so damned limited.

Wow. didn't expect all of that to come out this morning.
I need coffee.

Oh, and i forgot to mention that the third album SUCKED.

The 3rd cd is the only 1 I liked. Her second disc put me to sleep 3 times and her 1st cd was so contrived.

I agree that the first album was contrived it was like a promotion sample.

The third album had better music and was more funkier but the songwriting was poor and not memorable compared to Amy Winehouse's Back To Black album Introducing Joss Stone was a flop.

The best song was Music because it had Lauryn Hill of course!

The other songs like Put Your Hands On Me and Headturner was plain annoying.

The second album was better in songwriting than the third but like you put down it was boring.

me too...
the part when she repeats
"Love what made for me andjoo (and you)"
that's a classic... the lyrics
are a lil elementary, but I think
they were going for that kind of thing
it's fun... summer-ish...
I will be playing that one ALOT this summer cool

Those who think Joss Stone is so great are just really missing on real soul, and are being suckered by the big labels to buy commercialism. Joss Stone is not a bad singer but just very artificial, superficial and derivative.

Big difference between her and Nikka. Neither one of them can even hold a candle to Teena Marie let alone find where the shop that sells the candles is even located. But at least Costa has bonafide "soul". She knows it so she's not turned out by it. She doesn't have to pimp it or be pimped out by it. And it doesn't dictate how she sings or acts. She never had that "Oh look at me...I'm special. I'm one of a kind." type of vibe Joss gives off. Nikka is way more natural with her shit. She's not caught up in the "non black girl who has soul" bag.

Nikka blew me away last year in London at the aftershow. nod

I think the thing is that we got excited over for about a second but after seeing how MTV and VH1 have been promoting her we see that there are better talent than her.

Her voice is boring it is bland, limited and nothing behind it.
