Sounds so good to hear a great R&B song & without an annoying "Boom Clap" beat!**cough**Mariah

This shit is a straight rip of several different artists from the 70s, right down to the Curtis Mayfield vocal arrangements. This was hot 35 years ago before it was ripped off and watered down.
No originality whatsoever. PASS.

I know what you mean this is a totally retro-sounding jam, without any unnecessary guest rapper,or any hip-hop influence at all.

very, very nice. i like this a lot.
and yeah, so what if it's a rip of 70's soul. 60's & 70's rip-offs are the best thing about modern soul music in decades. "Try to remember how you used to feel about me
and think about how you're treating me now. Then try to reconcile them, if you can. But you don't even remember, do you?"

sounds good, though a tad repetitive maybe?

I'm diggin' it. I'm glad he's releasing an album every couple of years. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I agree. Watch: imaginary remix: Magic Feat Kanye West "It's Keezy never thought you'd see it this easy/With Robin and the West/ You are now rocking with the best/Alot of haters said it couldn't be done/Came in the game and both won/Continue spitting out classic hits/ Man it's Drastic Yall betta call it quits/I got them rocking from Chi Japan London to Down Under/How he get them so fast? It makes you wonder/Destroying club, charts, and creating Havoc/I don't know yall we just got that MAGIC Yea got that MAGIC" This is the epitome of a phoned in single to make the Label happy that they can shop it to the ringtone soul people. I would prefer to hear the original of what Thicke had in mind. Because I assure you this was not IT. I give it a D It would get a F except for the vocals. And I hope people snap out of this processed factorized soulchop shit that now is infecting Thicke singles now? It's been more than 5 years of this damn mixtape "I want you to think I appreciate Ol Soul" b.s. It's Over and done.

overthinking pop music of whatever genre is really missing the point, don't you think? "Try to remember how you used to feel about me

To Robin's credit, his upcoming album doesn't include any guest artists at all.In fact, the few guest artists who appeared on his last album were probably his record label's idea.Unlike many other R&B artists,I don't see him rushing out to have Kanye West or Jay-Z all over his songs.

I like it. Not really inspired by it and it's repetitive, but I like it.
I'll probably like it less and just want to hear the original if I find out it's just a looped sample.

No originality whatsoever. PASS. Right ON. He went from watered down Eric Benet meets Maxwell 2 Curtis. "He's a musician's musician..."

R3V said: BlaqueKnight said: I completely disagree with you. [Edited 5/16/08 1:18am] Let me explain. This is in the vein of pop R&B artists who either sample or recreate old soul music almost exactly as it was 30 years ago but the vocals and lyrics are watered down. John Legend is guilty of this, Alicia Keys is guilty of this, several other are as well. I just think its shit. Take Mint Condition, Maxwell (when he's got something out), Anthony David, Angie Stone or even Anthony Hamilton (most of the times). They take R&B and do something original. Peep "These Are The Reasons" by Angie Stone - the instrumentation is organic - real drums, bass, guitar, organ, electric piano, strings. That song is R&B, uses the same instruments that were available in the 70s but doesn't sound like it was made 30 years ago. Maxwell's whole 1st CD - Urban Hang Suite is another example of organic R&B that sounds new but also has a timeless sound to it. I'm just sick of that gimmick of shit like what Thicke is doing - take several old songs, replay the parts but change them just enough not to get sued, copy Curtis's vocal arrangements, knowing that because you don't sound like Curtis, soul fans probably won't put 2 and 2 together until later on and people that don't know won't know. John Legend is guilty of this shit as well and Alicia has been doing it on her past couple of CDs but especially on this last one. Its a gimmick. Its McSoul. I'm just tired of it. That's what I meant by I completely disagree with you. I think the people taking soul and R&B in a newer, updated direction are far more interesting than people like Thicke, John Legend, Alicia, Duffy, and Joss Stone. What they are doing has been done and was done much , much better the first time when it meant something. Now its tribute, marketing and sales. McSoul. [Edited 5/16/08 11:25am]

Stymie said: I'm not looking to Robin to be mind blowing or innovative. I don't know if my fellow Thicke fans do either. I just like him and like this track. There is nothing deep to it. I've been an old soul all my life. Of course I know the difference between a Curtis and a Robin. I dig his music. More than that I dig what he has to say because most of the words to his songs, I've lived. I'm not calling the guy the best thing since sliced bread.
I hear you. I think the song is lame and sounds like a lot of other songs done 30 years before it. That's all I'm saying
