How about a mention for Fela Kuti? It is a tribute album in his honour after all.

I don't know. I'm only feeling "So Be It" by Kelis. The rest of the record didn't meet up to my lofty expectations. I was hoping for more since it has such a stellar constellation of stars (e.g. Res, Macy Gray, Ndegeocello, etc.) Those are all my favorite artists, but I wasn't feeling the beats or the music on the record. Maybe I need to take another listen?

Maybe you just don't dig afro-beat or Fela, this isn't a collection of D'Angelo, Macy Gray etc written songs.

FELA'S TRIBUTE ALBUM TRULY IS...
RED HOT As Essence points out the sound is afrobeat and not nu-soul/r&b so it may take time for some folks to get accustomed to it. As well as the above-mentioned artists, the compilation also includes an appearance by Nikki Costa 'Water No Get Enemy' (backing vocals) AND Tony Allen - one of my all-time favourite drummers and percussionists! It's HIGHLY recommended!!! [This message was edited Sat Oct 19 11:36:51 PDT 2002 by papaa] [This message was edited Sat Oct 19 11:37:28 PDT 2002 by papaa] M.2.K

I JUST HAVE TO REITERATE...
This album remains the funkiest record I've heard all year! 'Water No Get Enemy' and 'Shuffering + Shmilling' are killer grooves. Brilliant!!! M.2.K
