i haven't listened to any of them yet. i'm still at work. i'm very excited to hear the meshell cd and the battles album, because i've heard so much about both. also, i've never heard a snakefinger album and i'm very curious as to what that will be like. red sovine is good to listen to drunk. he sings sad truck driver songs.  | |

no, this library is totally above ground, as far as i know. it's very modern. it's weird in that you do all the checking in and out of books yourself, but i kinda like that. i did all my browsing yesterday while listening to my iPod, and i never had to take the earphones off throughout my whole visit. it was nice. | |

listening to the meshell album for the first time right now...i like it, but it's frustrating. i am LOVING the up-tempo/rockin' material. it's eye-opening and totally unexpected. the first "proper" song on the album almost sounds like the cure, for cryin' out loud! there's another song on the album that reminds me a bit of tricky - of course, trip hop isn't really a stretch for her, but i never really thought of her music that way until this album. the frustrations for me have to do with the slow/mid-tempo stuff, which is pretty, but she's done it before on 'bitter' and 'comfort woman'. i know she can make beautiful, atmospheric music. i didn't know she could rock out. i want more of THAT on here. maybe i'll get more used to the balance with more listens. i am liking this album a lot...just a quibble. | |

i plugged in the earbuds, went straight for the CD racks, did my digging and got the hell outta dodge.
it is a shame that there are pestery crackheads in the library, but i don't think that's ever gonna change. i was thrilled when i first noticed a dunn bros. cafe attached to the mpls library, but the first time i used it to sit and read, Cracky McCracken dropped in and decided the middle of the coffee shop was his personal dance floor.

I like that album a lot - Atlas is phenomenal - but it's definitely something of an acquired taste. i just listened to it. i liked it, and i wasn't sure if i would. i was expecting something like tv on the radio (which i don't really care for), and i was pleasantly surprised. yes, it's difficult listening and i can tell it's an acquired taste, but fortunately there's enough variety going on that it kept me interested and engaged. it's kind of a nice blend of indie electronic dance/rock filtered through freeform jazz, but not in a totally jarring way. i like! | |
