Purple Rain: Starring Ne-Yo? “[I’m] still reading over scripts trying to figure out what’s gonna be the next move. Fox Atomic has another movie in development right now for me that’s kind of going to be along of the lines of a current-day Purple Rain . . . Like me playing the role of Prince, and then I don’t know who they’re getting for the other roles. But the script is being written for me right now.”

Now I've been on a self-imposed Artist I Used To Love As Prince boycott for a while now but this was enough to make even me go WTF?

I don't see why everyone is so up in arms over this. He wasn't comparing himself to Prince. He was just saying that he got a script that was similar to Purple Rain. I'm sure musicians have received scripts like that since Purple Rain first came out. He's not actually gonna be in a Purple Rain Remake so breathe easy and retract your nails!!!
Purple Rain has been the template for musicians in movies since it was released. As for Ne-Yo being a has been. I think he's a hell of a songwriter, and if his career out front tails off. It's amazing how these new artists have one or two hit singles,and suddenly they think they're movie stars "I'm still reading over scripts"....
At least Prince waited until he had done 5 albums before he decided to go this route.He made sure he had a large following.What's next...Ciara re-making 'A Star Is Born'? LOL | |

Movie studios were turning down Purple Rain left & right. I'm not saying that Ne-Yo compares to Prince in any way, shape, or fashion. I understand that,but remember,by late 1983 (when Purple Rain began filming) Prince was already on his way to being a superstar.He had a large,devoted following and there was alot of "buzz" surrounding him.I just don't see the same thing with Ne-Yo.Yes,he's had a few hits and I know he's written some songs for other artists but he seems to be a boring personality.Just can't see why Hollywood is calling for him.
