I'm in. The initial idea - pooling 10 songs from 20 or so orgers - appeals the most to me, but I'd like to participate regardless of what shape this thing takes.

I like this idea best as well. It will be so cool to hear what other people pick. Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife. --Kahlil Gibran

Anxiety said: here's an idea i've been marinating in my head since this thread came about:
i'd like to do something that is both a mix comp exchange AND a collaborative mix. it would work like a chain letter, only one person would be assigned to make a mix for another person, and then that person would be assigned to make a mix for another person (and all these people would be chosen from a list by whoever is running this project, kinda like secret santa) BUT there'd be a SECOND disc that would circulate in this "chain", where the recipient would have to select their favorite song from the mix they got and put it on the disc IN ADDITION to the disc of all new stuff they send along to the next person. then that next person gets the all new disc PLUS the "in progress" best-of picks disc from the people previous to them, and then that person chooses a song from the comp they got and they add to that "in progress" mix as well as creating a whole new mix of their own to send to someone. when the "in progress" disc is full, then it goes back to the person running the project, they mix it all together in whatever artsy fartsy way they think works, and everyone gets a copy of the best of the mixes mix. this idea has flaws, i know. but what about the unflawed parts? I like these ideas. Maybe it could be like this: Each person makes a mix and sends it to one person. After a week, person B sends person A's mix to Person C who keeps it for a week then sends it to person D, etc. That way everyone gets to listen to a single mix for a week and no one's mix gets lost in the shuffle. Plus, that's a lot more economical than sending out 20 CDs and there's a greater chance that someone's mix will get lost in the shuffle if everyone gets 200 tunes right off the bat. It'd take a bit of coordination but we could keep track on a thread of who's had whose mix. I also like the idea of the chain mix too. Maybe that one could be send on a Flash drive and we could have a readme file included and everyone could add to it as it gets passed around.

This is my first post to this thread but id be interested. It's a good way of being introduced to new music. I also think you can learn a hell of a lot about someone from the music they listen to!

i've only ever received one mixed tape in my life and it was from a boy who had a huge crush on me in Junior High.
It's how i discovered the Pixies. I'm such a passive music listener that I think I would have a hard time making a mixed tape for anyone else.

Economical and time to digest the music. Win-win. A sends to B sends to C sends to D, etc. As for the chain mix/best of compilation. A flash drive might not be so handy. Only at the end of the twenty weeks you know which songs are your personal faves. So I would say, we vote at the end of the 20 weeks, and one volunteer makes a mix of it and offers it through download. Or you can make it yourself if you're interested. If not, then not. Sure you do. I for one, don't know anything about Mel'isa Morgan! Take a stroll through your collection and surprise yourself and everyone! If anyone wants someone 'in the know' contact him/her now, before we exceed the 20 person limit...

Awright, read the thread and would love, love, love to join, but I just lost my external hard drive (55.000 MP3's) so first of all; I am strapped for tunes and second; I am strapped for time as well.
