There's a theme? i think this may warrant a new thread at some point. just sayin'. but do go on. i'm very interested. Do we wait until someone volunteers to put the whole url idea together to start a new thread or do we use the new thread as a want ad for that person?

I make compilation CD'S for people all the time, mostly family and co-workers.
I like to keep the groove growing on my comps, depending on who I'm making it for. I like to build from midtempo to fast through out the CD. Here's a track list to a comp I just did for a co-worker: 1.I Really Don't Need No Light - Jeffery Osborne 2.D.M.S.R. - Prince 3.Let's Get Serious - Jermaine Jackson 4.Keep On - D-Train 5.Genius Of Love - Tom Tom Club 6.Square Biz - Teena Marie 7.Night(Feel Like Getting Down) - Billy Ocean 8.You Got The Power - War 9.Get Tough - Kleeer 10.I Can Make It Better - The Whispers 11.Light Up The Night - Brothers Johnson 12.Strut Your Stuff - Stone City Band I'm just learning the art of mixing, I only do slow jam mixes for the fam and co-workers, always quiet storm style, when one song is fading I bring that next one in.

Another idea is I can make a downloadable pdf with everyone's artwork and notes and maybe we can put the entire project online somewhere and just let orgers download everything. We'd have to keep the URL hush-hush though. I think that last option is easiest and cost efficient. Also an url behind a psswrd could work. Let's make some framework here: -Limit per person. I say 10 tracks per person is maximum. -Limit of people. I'd say 20 peeps, that would make 200 tracks. That's already quite much. Ten people on this thread had interest, so a little more room to grow. -Theme. 'Tracks you think people haven't heard, but really should have!' Something like that? -Artwork. Should include. Short commentary on the track, like: who is it, where they from, why the inclusion. Your org avatar for reference! Your own little subtheme, like: 70s music you should have heard. Artwork and title of album the songs hail from. Maybe everyone could just upload a .rar of the songs and bundle the artwork and liner notes with that. We could have a thread ONLY for these compilations and everyone could post the URL to their comp but then write up a bit about what the concept of the mix is and use that as enticement for people to download and listen to it.

If some 60 people join, the person overseeing is getting a lot more work and you won't be able to listen to all the compilations within the timespan of say, a weekend... Supa said: No theme! I didn't know this stuff was so serious to some. All those years I just thought it was something you did for your broke friends or to get good stuff to your people that live in the boonies.
But lemme leave this I'll let this stay underground. :backs out, shuts the door quietly:

Now I have to figure out how to compile it. I can't be lazy and go alphabetical
Also, what is going to be the cutoff as far as how many people are in the project? So excited!!!! 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Okay, we can have that as a theme! . [Edited 5/20/08 2:37am] The fear of too many people wanting in was in the back of my head actually. I'm fine with keeping the project confined to this thread. Maybe we should orgnote a few others that we think may want in. The theme should be unpopular songs you love and want other people to hear. (I mean, as much as someone may love "Rehab", I don't really see the point in sending it to the other 19 people involved.) Any other theme beyond that is optional. formatting [Edited 5/20/08 14:36pm]

Gangstafam just played a song for me and I was telling him about this and how anx and cinnie and sexton and some other people were going to do this cool cd, tape, mp3, flash drive exchange thing that had to be secret because we can't post urls and I can't anyway because of having dialup and we were going to have a secret password and only we would know it and only 10 songs with one per artist and I was sure glad there wasn't a THEME theme except it should be songs we think people won't know. And maybe only the people who were on the thread could be in it and maybe I could mail it to someone and I already knew a bunch of my songs and he was like, oh yeah, that's a good one.
He was like, cool, maybe I'll join in. [Edited 5/21/08 21:13pm] Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife. --Kahlil Gibran

You are welcome. And as a side note, do you know that I gave my boss (the Director of three programs who brings in 3/4 a million dollars a year in grant money and also happens to be my sister) a Forever stamp today and she TOTALLY could not get the concept. I'm gonna send her a link to your thread which I'm sure will completely clear it up for her. Music is the language of the spirit.
