This album is pure self indulgence. I didn't like it when it first came out and after years of not hearing it I thought that maybe it woulda been one of those *what was I thinking, I can't believe I didn't love this the first time* kinda moments. But no, this album is awful lol I LOVE Mr. Saadiq but based on the album name, this should have been the church service to end all services. Certainly religion as seen in outerspace. The music is really not very memorable and really only shines when he has someone else to produce, i.e. Angie Stone & T-Boz. The lyrics, while very personal at times, really lack any real substance. It just feels like nothing to me.

Sorry to say this about the album but I don't get it. Am I missing something? If so, tell me. smile

I didnt care for it much either which is suprising since i've enjoyed material he's done for other artists up until now

I liked the Get Involved song from the PJ's soundtrack though shrug

I was a big fan of Tony Toni Tone and I thought House Of Music was probably one of the more underrated soul/R&B albums of the 90s. But his solo work just doesn't add up to me.

Meh.

I don't understand how you can't like this album. maybe it is a musician's album. he uses tuba on one track and his bass work is great. He is very underrated as a bassist. I like evry song except for 1. The cd is actually titled Instant Vintage.
the follow up album Ray Ray isn't as good but it still has a lot of gems. i think the melodies are there, i find myself singing or humming this cd all the time
