Hate to say it, but that didn't work for me at all. The song just doesn't suit him. There was one great moment though when he did the high falsetto note on "All I NEEEED!" That was one of their many weaknesses and some of the covers weren't even good (the Supremes' versions of "Come and Get These Memories" and "Heat Wave" were WRETCHED, for example). Marvin Gaye was one of the only Motown artists whose different versions of Motown singles by others (regardless if he recorded them first or not) were actually better than the "originals".
