So what do you think of this?

I would feel uncomfortable and guilty buying/listening to that without first appreciating the originals. I only recognize two of the original songs from the titles, which means I first have a lot of work to do to dig into the historical catalogue. After doing that, I think I would still feel guilty giving these remixes any time. And if I did, I'm afraid they would bore or irritate me. But you can call me old-fashioned. smile However, if someone whose musical taste I respected recommended it, then I might try to keep an open mind.

People love shit hop and other cheap nonmusic. shrug

yeah, I guess it's part of the youtube culture where everything gets revamped a million times often by mediocre (and that's an understatement!) producers and then gets presented to the public in numerous forms.

What is this culture coming to? Are we no longer able to discriminate between good and bad art? Were we ever able to? Personally, I think it represents an artistic crisis.

The royalties still go to the original writers.

Your telling me the original writers/recording studio etc. get paid every time someone does a remix with their material? confuse

Not unless the remix gets played. You only get paid for spins..

I loved it in the 1990s when they would make a remix of an old disco song from the 1970s or a funk song from the early 1980s and add some house music drum machines on it. This made it great for throwing in an old song along with the current house music of that era and it all blended perfectly and nothing sounded out of place.

I have several compilation CDs of old music that has been remixed house music style and continued buying them until I got burned in the 2000s. I bought a CD of old Motown songs ranging from The Jackson 5 to Rick James and they weren't remixed house style. They were remixed shit hop style. They had those weak ass shit hop sounding drum machines added to them and the tempo of the songs were slowed down to about half their original tempo so they could fit in with the dull shit hop sound. I listened to that CD once after I bought it and then I smashed the damn thing up against the wall.

But so...regarding radio play...isn't there a copyright issue?

Are you saying the remix was without the artist's consent? I don't think there's anything wrong with that if the remix is only for the station to play and not going to be sold anywhere. Shep Pettibone used to remix a lot of records in house for Kiss FM back in the early 80s and those weren't authorized, right?

Those mixes you heard alot of em were Prelude Artists..

Sharon Redd
D-train
Strikers
Unlimited touch
France Joli
Wuff Ticket

Shep was the in house remixer along with Francois Kervorkian, so alot of those mixes we heard on Chuck Leonard's show on 98.7 kiss were all acetates authorized by Patrick adams and Prelude records. trust me on this

It wouldn't be a lot of work finding the originals. Verve anticipated your request by releasing these CDs:

That's cool, I didn't know that. I do remember other Kiss FM-only remixes for songs like "When Doves Cry" and Freeez's "I.O.U.". I don't know if Shep or some other DJ did those.

Maybe because the Tori songs aren't ones that have been around for generations? smile
