has anyone heard this? if so, what happened. the only information I got was that he was in the south for a concert this past Saturday and had a heart attack that morning.

sorry I didn't put the fact that I was wondering about this inside my subject title but I couldn't seem to bring that part of my topic back up. But I was wondering about this. I also hear that it doesn't look good.. if so, and he passes on, (which I hope not,)then bb king would be the only one left still living, that is, out of the true blues musicians who were popular and still performing over the last few years...

I haven't heard anything about this chewwsey. Lord knows these folks love some blues down here so I would think I would have heard something either on the local television news or the radio. Where did you hear it chewwsey?

This is all I could find on it. Bobby had a stent put in this morning. Someone close to him posted at 3:34PM that things went well and he's doing fine.

I know a guy who was supposed to have been bringing him up on stage the day of the blues fest, and when I asked him how it went, he told me he didn't get the chance to because of that. and that it didn't look good.

But there are several quite major if now venerable 'classic era' blues artists still going on out there beyond Bobby and BB King. Maybe not superbig names, but still bringing the blues to those who want to hear. All the following are bandleaders in their own right -


Hubert Sumlin - Legendary guitarist with Howlin' Wolf's band and more recently a noted solo artist. A true blues legend and an important influence on Jimmy Page among many others.

'Pinetop' Perkins (blues piano legend - born 1913, same year as Muddy and still plays a couple nights a week).

David 'Honeyboy' Edwards (man i love these guy's names ) born 1915. Edwards was a friend to the legendary musician Robert Johnson and was present on the fateful night Johnson drank the poisoned whiskey that took his life. A real living witness to that fateful day in blues history??

James Cotton ('50s Muddy Waters harpist, when Little Walter wasn't around, James was Muddy's harp man back then)

Willie 'Big Eyes' Smith (one of Muddy's drummers).

These are just a few I know of.

Having done a little research for this post, I am now sad to find that Robert 'Junior' Lockwood, stepson of Robert Johnson and a majorly influential guitarist in his own right, passed on in Nov 06. I thought he was still among us. Damn .

At least, with these other old stagers, oldtime blues still got some kick left

This month's Mojo Magazine (in America it has Slash on the cover, the UK edition has Paul Weller) has an interview of Bobby Bland by Mick Hucknall of Simply Red. Mick's new CD is just covers of Bobby's songs
