Smokey.
Even though I love Stevie WAAAAY more than Smokey, gotta give it to ol' Mr.Robinson for hitting RIGHT on the pulse, he's a soul poet

Remember, Smokey wrote a bunch of Motown hits of other artists too. This was when song writers had big clout. Now all they care about is the artist, the marketing of some bubblehead blond with no skills and the like. All you others say Hell Yea!!

I would say Smokey up until about 72 or so. I would say Stevie from 72 to about 88. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

That's about what I would've said, but I'd just make the cutoff the beginning of the '70s. Smokey wins the '60s, they combined to write one of my favorite songs, "The Tears of a Clown" in '70, and then Stevie took over. As much as I love Smokey, I can say with 100% certainty that every song on, say, Innervisions is better than anything in Smokey's solo career. Yes, even that one. Smokey ruled the '60s but the '70s was all Stevie. Smokey just fell out of place. He could only do ballads after the '60s.
