Matronik,

Are you a big Tom Waits Fan?

The reason I ask is I understand these are all covers?

So have you heard Tom's version and does she do it justice?
Music is the best...

I know who he is, but I am not familiar with his work.

SJ's album is 95% of covers of TW and an original song.

What albums do u recommend? I think it will be great to explore his work. I like the songs she covered

Ok...if sosgemini hates, then it's really a great album. Usually we have opposite taste.

Still he likes Battlestar galactica! biggrin

Matronik,

I recommend Beautiful Maladies for the Island years, which is like industrial stomp (the musical meets very interesting lyrics) also with great ballads.

For the 70's paino crooner years....I like Small Change.

From the tracklist it looks like it almost all 80's and sooner.

Of the post 90's stuff, I like Mule Variations was a great mix of Tom:

You always get a church like, barnyard stomper, a wonderful ballad, and great moody post industrial compositions.

He is a true treasure.
Music is the best...

lol c'mon, everyone loves Battlestar Gallactica!

For the record, an album of Scarlett Johansen singing Tom Waits covers sounds worse than a Cylon invasion.

Serious question: Why is dark and drepressing considered a value in music? I'm so bored with it. Mind you I'm an ani fan and she can get outright depressing. I'm just wondering. General question and all. It seems that in order for music to be taken seriously is has to be dark and/or depressing. It's so high school. I'll admit my music collection is probably 60 percent "dark," but I'm bored with it all. Quit your whining I say and write some fucking inspirational music to help the masses cope with this crazy world.
mad

as for Tom Waits...I don't get him. My roommate adores him. His music might be good but I can't get past his "singing," which is painful for my ears.
