Only thing of his I have is

Great synth heavy 80's score (and not enough of it). Of course, totally unlike the stuff he is known for LOL

Oddly, despite producing the score, one piece of music, "the chosen one", credits producer/keyboardist/songwriter Robbie Buchanan. Fair enough as he produced and performed it, but Columbier wrote it. If Mike wrote it, why not produce and play on it aswell, like he did on the other tracks? lol Confused? Iam. Anyone give a shit? Nope LOL

Anyway, CD is pretty rare now apparantly.

lol well, I do....that was the thing, doing incidental scores, you obviously get relegated to the background alot...I'm sure at the time most folks didn't care about about the little moody pieces he did for Purple Rain (although someone here on the org mentioned that they wrote to Michel, and he actually sent them a cassette of that music-- if anybody out there remembers that orger lemme know...)likewise with the scores for soundtracks like Madonna's Swept Away, movies like New Jack City, Deep Cover, White Nights, Ruthless People, Trippin', Posse, Woo, How Stella Got Her Groove Back... basically , soundtracks where established Pop and Hip/Hop music artists contributed a lot of songs, and that was the emphasis, rather than the score....

Wow. Maybe I should write to him about "the golden child"?. CD being the 80's, you get some songs unfortunately, but about half of it is score (about 20 minutes), so its pretty even at least. On that track "the chosen one", the one credited to Robbie Buchanan (who I love), maybe Michael didn't have time to produce and perform it, so her gave it to Robbie (who is never known for his score work/instrumentals). Anyway, "the chosen one" is the best track. Michael replaced John Barry on the film. CD gives you one of the cuts left by Barry. Typically whimsical, but its a nice enough cut.

Interesting, I just checked the CD: (paraphrasing here obviously) "orchestrations by Mike and Robbie Buchanan, synths by Robbie Buchanan." Seems Robbie had more to do with it then I thought. Cant remember much orchestra on it LOL. Need to play it again. Then usual studio hired guns Dan Huff, paul jackson jr, carlos vega help out aswell. But Interesting that Mike did not programme the synths.

I almost forgot --His 1967 collaboration with Pierre Henry, called "Psyche Rock" is now used as the theme for the show "Futurama":

R.I.P.

I woulda loved some of the unreleased score stuff.

Sure, I may have a project he or his fans probably hate, but I love some of it, so I consider myself somewhat of a fan of his.
