Motown superstar Diana Ross was back to doing what she does best this weekend, as she performed a selection of her greatest hits at a benefit concert in New York. The iconic Ain't No Mountain High Enough singer lead a roll call of big-hearted divas at the Big Apple's famous Radio City Music Hall.
Joining the music veteran at the Divas With Heart gig was fellow legend Gladys Knight. The Midnight Train To Georgia was clearly relishing her return to the spotlight, pointing victoriously to the cheering crowd and flashing a broad smile. Also lending their star power to the event - which aimed to raise money for medical research - were multiple Grammy Award winner Chaka Khan and soul singer Patti LaBelle. Both of whom belted out renditions of their songs in true big-voiced diva style. Space for sale...

A prima donna primer for four stars Sunday, May 4th 2008, 4:00 AM Diana Ross Kravitz/Getty Diana Ross Patti LaBelle Tamargo/Getty Patti LaBelle Gladys Knight Winter/Getty Gladys Knight Chaka Khan Brolin for News Chaka Khan Who says divas have no heart? Four of the biggest - Diana Ross, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight and Chaka Khan - will sing theirs out Sundayat two shows at Radio City Music Hall (2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.) to benefit the Masonic Medical Research Lab. (The lab specializes in cardiovascular issues, which explains why they've called the shows "Divas With Heart.") Of course, when we think of divas, far less warm and fuzzy qualities spring to mind. Naturally, all four of these women possess each of those aspects - to varying degrees. With that in mind, we've devised the following Diva-meter to assess which parts of the grand character each possesses, rated on a severity scale of 1 to 10: DIANA ROSS Imperiousness: 10. Given her famous edict that all inferiors (which is to say, everyone) call her "Miss Ross," it's hard to beat Diana for sheer haughty allure. Wild hair care: 10. Every year it seems the circumference of Diana's "hair" gets wider. If nothing else, every year it makes her hips look smaller. Loudness: 1. By diva measures, Ross' voice rates as barely a beep. Rabidness of fans: 10. Bring the butterfly net. The most ardent are downright certifiable. Outrageous stage outfits: 8. The undisputed queen of outfit changes. She's also the most glamorous dresser of this bunch - and has been for more than 40 years. Appeal to drag queens: 10, if not 20. As drag-fetish objects go, perhaps only Streisand has inspired more trips by young men into their mommy's closets. PATTI LABELLE Imperiousness: 2. Miss Patti prefers to present herself as the diva next door - approachable, funny and utterly down-to-earth. Wild hair care: 3, marked down from 8. Patti hit a peak in the mid '80s with her "New Attitude" shock-treatment locks. These days she's deflated and, by earlier standards, subdued. Loudness: 10. Not only can she yell loud enough to awaken the collective population of Woodlawn Cemetery, Patti does so more times per song than anyone alive. Rabidness of fans: 6. Yes, fans love her, but would they kill for her? Outrageous stage outfits: 6. Not so many change-ups, but there's flash in the color and ornamentation. Appeal to drag queens: 6. Patti certainly has her arch queen following, but they're less prone to imitate the look than worship the voice. GLADYS KNIGHT Imperiousness: 1. She's so approachable, Gladys could make Patti seem like Evita Peron. Wild hair care: 2. Nothing you couldn't find in Black Hair magazine. Loudness: 7. Yes, Gladys has a huge voice. But she wields it with taste. Rabidness of fans: 5. They're ardent but polite, reflecting their queen's lack of flash. Outrageous stage outfits: 3. Neat, prim, with few frills. Appeal to drag queens: 0: Gladys isn't big on camp - a major liability in this realm. CHAKA KHAN Imperiousness: 5. Chaka may not have Diana's nose-in-the-air demeanor, but she posses her own queenly gait and implicit distance that compels any audience to feel her power. Wild hair care: 8. Like Ross, Khan keeps expanding the breadth of her extensions. By now, they've reached global proportions. Loudness: 9. Chaka's got enough sheer lung power to blow the house down. Rabidness of fans: 7. It's an affectionate bunch. But Khan's high bearing imparts too much distance to invite the intimacy of the truly rabid. Outrageous stage outfits: 7. Demented at times, with a wonderfully obscene attention to the breast area. Appeal to drag queens: 8. With her big hair, and bigger chest, Chaka has the size and scope of a cross-dresser's dream. http://www.nydailynews.co...stars.html Space for sale...
