I love David Bowie, but he does tend to also 'jump on the cool bandwagons'. They are completely different performers, yet the same also...they both know what they like and will use that for their own music/styles.
Remember Bowie wasn't the first to perform Folk, Glam, Rock, Funk/Soul, Ambient, Dance, Industrial, Drum and Bass etc. but he was inspired by a new movement and used it as a way to perform his own material- why is that different from Madonna?

Bowie actually played the first "Glam Rock" concert in character as Mr Fish in London in 1970 before the term "Glam Rock" was invented as producer of both Bowie and T.Rex pointed out. Also Bowie took Glam Rock to a much higher and artistic level than any other artist in that genre could have hoped to.

Genres like Dance, Industrial, Drum and Bass are genres Bowie did jump in in the mid 1990's in his late 40's and early 50's, when he was years past his creative peak from 1969-80.

Of course Bowie didn't invent Folk, Rock, Funk/Soul, Ambient. Neither did the Beatles invent Pop, Rock and Psychedelic music. And Prince never invented all the genres he hops between, and Michael Jackson didn't Pop, disco, music videos or the Moonwalk. Little Richard didn't create Rock 'N' Roll, and Jimi Hendrix didn't create guitar "feedback". But all of these artists added new elements and took the things that influenced them, and turned them in to new exciting forms with energy they didn't have before which is why they are innovators.

Madonna hasn't actually changed anything in music, except for the way women can now project themselves in a more sexual and powerful way (except Madonna was never sexy). Her images changes, but her music never does. Who made amazing videos like Ashes To Ashes in 1980, NO ONE. Bowie wrote and produced the whole of his 1974 album Diamond Dogs. Madonna's never done that, she co-writes everything (so she says ?), and is always on the look out for the latest producers to give her career life, because she'd be nothing without her payed collaborators. Sure Bowie has collaborators like producer Tony Visconti, and a co-writing and composed songs with the likes of Brian Eno who's album Another Green World was an influnence on Low. But unlike Madonna, David Bowie was (and to some extent still innovates) cutting edge, because he anticipated music trends before they happend and Madonna jumped on them while they happend or after they happend like she did with Electronica 2yrs after it was cutting edge.


Madonna is nothing more than the McDonalds of the music world.

The forum will only evolve when some orgers stop thinking they are superior to others based on their own music taste.

There is not tolerance here. Absolutely none. It's an hobby for some to nullify other based on the artist the others like...

Sharon Stone has just turned 50, and unlike Madonna she's beautiful and still looks very much like how she did in her early 30's.

There's nothing sexual about Madonna's music or look, not matter how hard she tries.

I saw Madonna come out of a theatre in 2003, and I did a "Screw U" sign to her as she drove past.
