you don't have like a virgin? I can listen to that start to finish, it's like HER take on Thriller if you ask me, on a musical level.

hmmm 'Like A Virgin' isn't one of my favorites. It was cool for its time (1984/85) but I rarely listen to it these days.In fact,I think her 90s material is much stronger than her 80s albums.

I seriously don't understand this. I listen to Like A Virgin about forty times more often than Ray Of Light.

I guess you would rather listen to HIStory than Thriller too?

And Erotica abandoning her trademark melodies was exactly the point I was making as to how brave a decision it was to create the album. She went for grooves, licks and hooks rather than the melodic pop that had made her famous in the 80s. And in my view, as in many others, it worked.

That's also just a matter of opinion. I don't consider most of Erotica being anything "brave" or "daring", she was riding high the success of her sexual songs, and the success with Shep, starting from "Vogue"."Deeper And Deeper" is one of her most unoriginal songs ever, because she practically made a "Vogue part 2" with it, I think that's much worse than "Madonna sounding like TLC" or "Madonna sounding like Nelly Furtado" but anyway.

The single "Erotica" brought nothing new either, after the steamy "Justify My Love" it's a bit bland even.

I do think stuff like "Words" or "Why's It So Hard" are just horrible filler and only "Bad Girl" & "Rain" are truly valuable from the Shep collaboration on Erotica.

Well, even this thread proves you're in the minority disliking Erotica and not seeing its importance in her career, so ner! nana

Even the international version of Like a Virgin with "Into the Groove" isn't as good as Ray of Light. That's her best album ever. However, I'll take Like a Virgin over the rest of her '90s albums.

Expert advice required regarding Madonna: Find Pat Leonard, and WTF happened to Shep? He worked well with her?

Someone told me her and Stephen Bray fell out (over a remix shep did for "express yourself"? Is that right?), but definately hook up with Pat again. "Frozen" is still an amazing song, one of my favs of hers easily.

You're not seriously comparing 'Like A Virgin' (a bubblegum pop album that's only worth it for the hits) with a deep, introspective masterpiece like 'Ray Of Life',are you? confuse I find that many hardcore, longtime Madonna fans don't have much love for 'LAV',despite its huge success with the masses.

I like LAV better than Ray of light. I like Ray of Light, but LAV is so fun - despite the hits, I actually dig Angel, Over and Over, Stay, and Shoo-Be-Doo. If it included the original mix of Into the Groove, Crazy For You, and Gambler (Which technically it should) then it would kick serious ass.

"Angel" certainly qualifies as a hit.

Those additions would make Like a Virgin her second-best album of the '80s (ahead of Like a Prayer), but I think I'd still prefer the debut (and, of course, ROL).

That's what I'm saying... "Into The Groove" and "Crazy For You" are from that EXACT era which made her a superstar... I don't see how a "longtime fan" would stick their nose up at LAV for the same reason.

Here's another shocker for you: I think her first album is overrated.

I didn't even become a big Madonna fan until the 'Like A Prayer' album."Live To Tell" caught my attention, though. With that song (and "Papa Don't Preach"),I could see that she was gonna be around awhile.
