I dig her too. If she wants to further her career she may want
to step away from R.Kelly and his infantile music and work with better producers. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

Last time I saw her she was singing gospel.
I don't know if this record is in that direction, but she needs to do a Yolanda Adams or a Inaya Day. Since it's almost impossible for her to find the kind of band she needs, if she doesn't go in one of those directions she'll end up making shit hop or elevator music and then going back to stripping or singing potato chip jingles or some crap. WHY hasn't she worked with P, or has she?
Even though P's record isn't the best with grooming talent, we're talking about baby Chaka here. What if dude dusted off some material and put her on it?

Slyvenna kinda of reminds me of a young Angela Windbush to degree. She has a good voice. This song is resonating with me now. And he knows why.
I AM YOUR WOMAN I'm your woman You are my man Soul 2 soul yeah Hand in hand I believe this is heaven's This is heaven's plan And when the morning comes You will be with me Puttin' your breakfast on the table Daddy do you have enough to eat And every day will be a holiday for you and me 'Cause I am your woman Baby love Just like a diamond ring We will shine 'til the blind can see Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh yes we will [Edited 4/25/08 23:00pm]

U ain't never lied Like Lina, Blu Cantrell and Keke Wyatt, she got thrown with the wack ass material that won't do her voice no bit of justice.

Syleena Johnson is so underrated. Definitely r&b's best kept secret as her saying goes. I've always liked/supported her music and I'm diggin this new song too.
And on that blog, I wouldn't be so quick to assume she won't make it on charts and such. Tese days it almost doesn't matter because some of the most popular artists chart well, but don't sell as much as the charts hyped them up as. They'll sell millions in ringtones or something. We are a "single society" now, where we'll only pay for the songs we like. That's the power of the internet...it allows us to be selective rather than settle. The internet has also changed the music scene a little bit to the point you can go the independent route or gain popularity online and do well for yourself. Artists don't soley have to rely on radio anymore and if you do good enough on your own these days...a label will coming looking for you. Prince was probably the first artist to prove musicians and singers don't need the record label and radio to get the music out there (even though he has a following). You can take other outlets and alternative measures to get things crackin'. So I say...more power to Syleena, literally. I really hope she does her thing this time around.

[Edited 4/7/08 19:33pm] When was the last time you saw her? She never sang gospel. Not with songs like Guess What, Phone Sex, Another Relationship, and Hypnotic...especially phone sex Her bio says her songs reflect how God applies to all aspects of life and how she comes from a spiritual view as a Christian woman in the real world. Syleena Johnson tells the truth...not necessarily the gospel truth...but definitely the truth. LOL

Even though P's record isn't the best with grooming talent, we're talking about baby Chaka here. What if dude dusted off some material and put her on it? I think Prince does what he does for the love of music and he looks to work with talented artists who love music as much as he does. Therefore he doesn't seem to focus on trying to break an artist...well not so much these days. Besides, he overshadows anyone he works with because Prince fans are fanatic freaks On top of him being a musical genius. If I'm not mistaken...I swore I saw Ledisi singing back up for Prince on TV the other night. And Stokley from Mint Condition sang back up for him at one point. But Prince can work with a rock and make it sound good..

Angela Winbush is the truth. I wish she'd come out with something new as well.

I saw her ON A GOSPEL SHOW singing GOSPEL. I'm pretty sure she wasn't singing Phone Sex in front of all those bible thumpers, and she wouldn't be the first or last artist to go from "between the sheets" to "praise him."

Share with them why you love her!!! This is a nice video. She's remaking Curtis Mayfield's Makings of You...I can't wait to hear that. Syleena has such a beautiful rasp. I always thought she could pull off remaking a song by a male.
