You're being kind. It's not that Madonna's style is from a different time period. It's that Madonna herself is from a different time period. She dances like a stiff middle aged woman. Maybe you don't want to be accused of ageism, but it's not ageist to point out that younger people move more easily than old people. It's just a fact of nature. Time goes by and joints get stiff, bones start to creak, etc. The problem is no one told Madonna this so she ends up embarrassing herself with her lame dancing.

It's not just the dancing either. Her voice is sounding older too. Justin is taking her to the cleaners on that track. Totally outshining her. Her voice has become bland and lifeless. It doesn't fit Timberland's fresh and energised production at all. Also she's singing lyrics on her album about her "booty". Even the biggest Madonna fans would have to admit how sad that is. She's turning into a Baby Jane figure, except that, unlike Baby Jane, she's still popular. Go figure.

These days, having a crush on older women in MILF status is very normal. And I believe Madonna is playing off of that knowledge for all its worth.

Come again? What does that have to do with her shit dancing? And she ain't playing off nothing either. There have always been women and men who didn't know how to age gracefully. Madonna is just following a long tradition. wink

Oy, I feel like I just watched Madonna do her best Beyonce impersonation falloff Can we talk about the obvious butt pad @ :26 seconds?? This woman has never had any ass to speak of, her shit is concave - wth?? lol

I get what you're saying Blaque, her moves do look dated nod But it's hard to catch since they favor her in all the shots & Justin's "moves" aren't really featured.

Also, I'm ready for her to STOP taking her clothes off already. I mean really, is she gonna try to keep doing this until she's 60 or what? eek

I have managed 2 avoid this video so far...now curiosity gets the best of me....Oh No!!!! It's gross....Seriously!! That woman makes me feel ill....She is, n' imho always has been, wholey inappropriate. Put ur clothes on, Pleease!!
I actually cringe with embarassment 4 her! She sure does protest too much!!

I had 2 laugh out loud during the shot of her lame attempt at break dancing, talk about emporers new clothes!!! Her joints r lookin' alittle stiff!!! Come on, Madonna, where's ur dignity???

What were all the anatomical effects about, aswell....Why??? As a package, the video actually made me feel sick 2 my stomach...It's soooo wrong.... eek In soooo many ways.....

Call me crazy, but did anyone sense the influence of So Solid's '21 seconds'?
Came 2 mind at the intro....Some similar styling also? That band-wagon passed

Forget dancing (it is stiff BTW! lol ). By the end of the day, it's the image. Madonna already knew of the potential criticism that the video was going to make. But she still did what she wanted to do anything despite her age. That is classic Madonna AFAIC.

I don't know about creepy, but I think the video is awful. The song sucks too. I don't understand why people love her or the new video so much. I don't dislike her, but I don't see the huge appeal she has. She is starting to look very scary too. She's had work done on her face and you can definitely tell. She's hooked up with JT because of his popularity. She knows who to use to her advantage.

I don't find the video to be creepy, I just wasn't impressed with it and thought the video was all over the place. It didn't make much sense. The dancing was not all that either . I thought both Madonna and JT looked pretty stiff in the video, not too mention the fact that the two have very little chemistry.

Madonna looks amazing in the video though. That's the one bright spot in the video lol.
[Edited 5/2/08 10:58am]

Co-nod Not impressed but not necessarily creeped out either.

However, Madonna is a perfect example that people need a lil weight on 'em as they age. Because her body fat % is so low it makes her skin kinda hang on her bones and gives her a haggard look. I think she'd look a whole lot better if she gained 10 pounds.

Them being in relationships didn't even enter my mind when I started the post, so that's not even a factor. This had nothing to do with the real lives of the two of them.
Madonna was not really "keeping up". Her body movements were...for lack of a better word at the moment...dated, and their dancing styles didn't match at all. They didn't "fit" together in my opinion.

What exactly were you expecting? lol

Anyway, I think the point of the video may have been to gross out and make us take notice, which it has.

Since I try to keep Madonna AND Justin Timberlake slightly off my musical radar, I had NO PRECONCEIVED EXPECTATIONS WHATSOEVER. Its not like I ever look forward to either of their releases. My points were made strictly from observations. I don't know what the intended point of the video was, since I didn't direct it. All I know is what I saw.

That's fine. I just don't get why people are shocked a 50 yr old woman moves a tad slower and is a little more dated than her 26 yr old counterpart. It just seems obvious that would happen.

Even the COADF era was corny in parts (the end of the Sorry video, with the roller skating).

After watching Madonna's new video with Justin Timberlake, I have to say that she came off a little Mary K. Letourneau to me. I know Justin is grown and all but Madonna kinda looked like she would be his mom. Even though they weren't grinding all on each other or anything, the whole video had a predatory feel to it.
I know there are some hardcore Madonna fans on here but I'm just expressing my opinion. I'm not saying Madonna looked old or anything. In fact, she doesn't. (She don't look young, either) But, the way she moves and dances is so different (in time periods) from Justin, he looks like a young dude dancing with an older woman when they are dancing together. Her style is very "then" and his is very "now". Its like watching someone krumping dancing with someone doing the cabbage patch. It just doesn't match.

highfive nod .....though I thought it would b cringe worthy, I am always ready 2 b proved wrong...This only confirmed what i knew already. Of course we all grow a little less agile with age...that's cool n' natural....Madonna is neither! She needs 2 take a new picture, realise where she's at, n' know her limitations....n' carry herself with more class, instead of exposing herself as the desperado she really is..... shake

I'm glad you used the "d" word 'cos it's the one I keep thinking of whenever I see her embarrassing herself. Dignity. Where the hell is it?

Funnily enough, I thought the same thing about MJ when I saw him hawking out his signature to Japanese fans last year.

You're missing the point. Of course, a 50 yr old woman is not gonna move like a 25 year old, but the point is Madonna seems oblivious to that fact. I don't think Madonna is aware of the vibe the whole thing has. In her mind I'm sure she thinks she's kicking ass.

Interestingly enough, there was a thread last year asking whether she and MJ were desperate for hits. I said no, but having seen this whole Timberlake thing I have to change my mind and say yes, she is desperate. Painfully so.

I'm not missing anything.

I think Madonna would be completely aware of that fact, but as it's ALWAYS been with Madge - she couldn't give a fuck. She's 50 and she's still making music and getting out there - why stop now?

I really hate this whole "she's so old! stop bitch stop!" stance everyone has against her. I agree she could spread her legs less (as could most pop stars these days) but really, does her career have to end just because she's old? Is anyone doubting Prince or MJ continuing to perform because of THEIR age? You'll probably argue that those two are more talented than Madge but who's the last one to have a worldwide smash? Madonna.

The other's have had a hit since the mid 90's yet Madonna still had everyone jamming as recent as 2005 (and now that Give It To Me is being released - 2008 as well! lol)

I like the Pharrell produced trax on her album - the Timbo/JT ones are unoriginal and sound try hard (they would sound it even without Madonna in them).

Agreed on the leg spreading...

Musicians can play until the grave so P is safe...

Mike may as well be retired, he does jack shit these days but make an ass of himself...

Please admit that her supposed sex appeal & image has ALWAYS been a huge part of her appeal/success. She was never a good dancer, barely a tolerable singer. She's worked the HELL out of what she has but let's face it - when she's no longer able to appeal to those who like super thin vocals & 99% image (i.e. the pop crowd), she should really look @ hanging it up. I'm not saying that to be ageist, I'm saying that based on what her actual talents are & who her audience has always been. It's gonna be sad for her pretty soon. It'd be kinda cool for it not to go down that way (some 65 year old broad still making it work!), but I think it will...

For a Madonna lead single, its painfully weak. Its pleasant enough, but honestly, Justin might aswell not bother being on it.

Madonna use to work with producers outside the mainstream (pat Leonard, shep pettibone, william orbit). People who may not of been comercially hip, and it often worked. WTF is she doing here? Its like when she hooked up with Dave Hall, Babyface etc..., for "bedtime stories", song is too average for Madonna. A let down.

Completely agree. Always have. Never liked her voice much, it sounds good on Frozen, Like a Prayer and a newie called Incredible because she varies it and sings in a higher key than usual. Most of the time I can't stand her monotone voice, though. I don't think anyone has ever put Madge's success down to her vocal "talent". Most people appreciate her work ethic, reinvention and the ability to put on an enjoyable show. Back in the day, she probably used to stand for some sort of female power but that's pretty much gone to shit these days. She has a great deal more "girl power" than pretty much any pop star but for some reason it's just not as effective these days...probably because she's done it all already.

I'm joined to another music board with people aging from 14-25. The majority of them REALLY love her new album (but wish Timbaland would STFU) and were all over Confessions too. Most of them went to see her Confessions tour as well and have an appreciation for her back catalogue.

I think as long as she keeps it fresh and keeps coming up with new ideas and looks, why not?

It's a nice change from the one song/one album pop stars of today anyway that fall off the face of the earth just as you get to know them.

this is the woman who went through high school without shaving her legs or armpits and currently owns the majority of the complete works of Frida Kahlo. you want her to take care of her daughters eyebrows?

That was high school in the 70s when lots of people didn't shave OR wax. It's 2008 and there's NO excuse for her daughter to have to walk around like this. None.Whatsoever. hmph!
