Your favorite Nine Inch Nails CD?

Haven't, as of yet, really got into "Year Zero."

But, lately I've been listening to "With Teeth" and thinks it's probaly my favorite of his.

Y'all?

probably "downward spiral", closely followed by "pretty hate machine".

"with teeth" is probably my least favorite. i just couldn't figure out what he was trying to do there.

This is the only acceptable answer unless you mix "Broken" in there somewhere.

"The Fragile" is my favorite as well...I would say "Year Zero" is my least favorite, though I still like it...

My fave is The Fragile. It's a melancholic masterpiece. Reznor really created an ambiance with this album, but it still knows how to explode with passion when appropriate.

The Fragile is like a broken man slowly drowning in his sorrows who still makes the occasional outburst to remind you he's not dead yet.

I agree with Anx about With Teeth. Most of it sounded really uninspired like Trent was reluctantly giving his fans a more straight forward album after all the criticism The Fragile received.

Imago

The Downward Spiral.

Followed very very closely by Pretty Hate Machine Or Broken (depending on my mood lol )

I remember my friend being very disappointed in the Downward Spiral at first cause they just didn't 'get it'. I was blown away upon first listen, as Trent went the David Bowie route with his approach to album making with this one. It was his first true....omfg CONCEPT album omfg... yeah, some of the fans just didn't get it at the time lol

Although I have to be in the mood to listen to it--let's face it, it sounds like he recorded it in a coal mine next to a drill--when I *AM* in the mood to listen to it, it always impresses me.

God what I wouldn't give to see Trent do a cover of "Mr. Goodnight". Just the 'mouth full of rasonettes' line alone would be worth it.

that's exactly how i feel about 'with teeth'. there was nothing really ambitious about it, which is an energy i've felt on every single one of his other albums. 'with teeth' just felt like, "okay, here are some songs, whatever." that just didn't hit the spot for me. shrug

I've been a NIN fan for years and Year Zero absolutely, 100% blew my fucking mind. It's the record I've been waiting for Trent to make.

So....

1. Year Zero
2. Pretty Hate Machine
3. The Downward Spiral
4. The Fragile (when it's brilliant you can't mess with it, unfortunately it meanders a bit at times, they should have trimmed it to a single disc IMO)
5. With Teeth (what the fuck, Trent. I'll give you a pass for "The Hand That Feeds" and "Every Day Is Exactly The Same" though)
