Mariah Carey and her new husband, Nick Cannon, made their first public appearance Thursday night, hitting the Big Apple for Time magazine's "100 Most Influential People in the World" gala.

Carey, wearing a silver minidress, sang at the party, held at New York City's Lincoln Center. Afterwards, she slipped into a strapless black dress accessorized with her 17-carat wedding ring to hit hotspot The Waverly Inn. Her new tattoo ("Mrs. Cannon" on the small of her back), however, was well hidden.

Approached at the gala, friend of the couple's director Tyler Perry, joked he had "a major issue with [Mariah]." "You know I want to take you out and you don’t tell me you’re getting married?," he said to PEOPLE. "What's that about!" All kidding aside, he added she's an "amazing person. I am really happy for her."

Carey and Cannon surprised friends and family April 30 with a Caribbean wedding, and honeymooned in the Bahamas after.

Could children be next? "Her baby will be in Gucci, Chanel and diamonds from birth," says Perry. "Just know that."

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon could be infanticipating.

We hear the newlyweds are already planning a nursery. Yesterday, one of Carey's assistants called L.A.'s chic baby boutique Petit Tresor to talk about preparing for a little roommate.

According to our eavesdropper, Mariah's office asked if the store could send fabric samples and if its designers could work with the theme of - you guessed it - butterflies! Word is the Petit crew is sending pictures of the nursery they just finished for Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony's twins.

Mariah's manager, Benny Medina, assures us that the 38-year-old songbird, who wed the 27-year-old Cannon on April 30, is not pregnant.

Three weeks ago, Carey told OK! magazine that she was in no hurry to start a family "because of childhood traumatic stuff." But since walking down the aisle with Cannon, she said having children is "part of the whole purpose of getting married."

A friend of the couple tells us Carey had said she was working on a concept to make Cannon's L.A. home more comfy for a lady with a whole lot of shoes and dresses. But apparently, she's also thinking about cribs and changing tables. Her assistant asked if Petit Tresor could shut the store for a private conference next time she's in L.A.

Did Mariah Carey break hearts en route to her marriage to Nick Cannon? It looks that way, according to Us Weekly.

The magazine says that music producer Mark Sudack dated Carey for nearly four years, and he even worked on her E=MC2 album. Though the two "secretly split" in early 2008, Us says Sudack is "shattered" by his ex's nuptial news.

Just weeks after the "low-key" wedding, one still asks the question did Mariah Carey make the right choice by tying the knot with rapper/actor/producer Nick Cannon who many are now calling a "fame seeker?"

According to this week’s issue of In Touch Magazine, Carey, a multi-platinum selling artist married the MTV "Wild-n-Out" star without a pre-nuptial agreement. This after dating for just a few weeks leading many to believe that the relationship will fail sooner than later.

Cannon, known for his many high profile breakups including his failed engagement to model Selita Ebanks after just five months last year, has been coined a "fame seeker" by the magazine. He is reportedly infatuated with high profile romances and was quoted saying "Halle Berry would be a good upgrade" in 2005 after he broke up with pop star Christina Milian, who claimed the "Dime Piece" rapper cheated on her throughout their three year relationship.

Milian, later released a record aimed at the star in 2006 entitled "Who’s Gonna Ride" fuming about his cheating -- “The whole time with different girls, not just one, but different girls. He said to me that these girls helped his ego and made him look good."

Cannon later responded in a statement to MTV calling the release of her diss record a sad day in hip-hop -- “I've got nothing but love for her. That's what sells. I think she should really dig deep and tell all the bad stuff I did. I actually like the record, it's on my ring tone."

Milian is nowhere near Mariah Carey though, "Mimi" is reportedly worth an estimated $225 million, which brings up the question is she helping his ego too or does she make him look good as Milian stated before?

“He’s crazy, he falls in love so fast but typically ends it soon because he typically has commitment issues" a close friend of Nick’s told the magazine. Nick’s reputation as a player continues to come up especially after he dated a string of beautiful women including reality star Kim Kardashian, who Cannon broke up with after the sex tape of the star and R&B singer Ray J surfaced. The friend suggests that this time things are different as Nick has never been involved with a woman as powerful as Mariah -- “He will do anything to keep hold of Mariah because she’s Mariah," says the friend later adding, "She’s famous, and he loves that. It’s good for his image."

but from what i gathered the journalist from People that covered the marriage was actually invited to the wedding. that Mariah basically wanted the ceremony itself to be quiet, without a big fussy crowd.

Yes they are definitely both crazy for each other and riding high on the feelings of love for now, but what happens when the honeymoon is over and reality sets in? Only after 6 weeks of dating they decide they're spiritual soulmates meant to marry each other and raise a family together?
Wasnt it just a few months ago Mariah was saying she didnt want to even have children? (Of course that was before Nick came and swept her off her feet.)
I wonder if before the year's out we'll all be reading about their breakup.

Granted, she could just be planning a nursery and wardrobe for a family member or friend. Let's see what happens. Ummmmm, but this is NOT unique to them. Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones sold their wedding pics for millions. So did Christina Aguilera and countless others. And many of these celebs sell pics of their kids for millions. So what's the damn difference??? It's the nature of the business but it doesn't mean they don't love each other.
