The skankiness really doesn't bother me so much. We are, after all, posting on a site dedicated to the Queen Whore himself. It's that ear-poppingly bad sound they're calling music that's upsetting me the most.

A talented artist can get away with a lot of things, (see above) but an untalented one should just give up the ghost and go home.

There's also a third group by that Robin chick. "Paradiso Girls" or something, it's supposed to be an international version of the Pussy Cat Dolls where the girls "represent" different nationalities.

TV and music have given us plenty of fake pop bands over the years. The Monkees, of course, were the original "PreFab Four." The Archies weren't even flesh and blood and they still had the No. 1 single in North America in 1967. The Spice Girls were manufactured video vixens as were those leggy, gyrating, pole dancers of pop, The Pussycat Dolls.

All were carefully cast and crafted and sold like candy to the youngest possible audience, pre-teens barely old enough to bug their moms and dads to buy them their first album or CD.

That was fine when the must-have song was called "Sugar Sugar." But when Mommy is being asked to buy "Stupid S---" off iTunes, well, perhaps it's time to take a closer look at Girlicious.

The female quartet, basically Bratz dolls come to life, will be performing in Toronto tonight at the MuchMusic Video Awards (live at 9).

"I've never been to Canada in my life and I'm so excited because it looks so pretty on TV," says Tiffanie Anderson, 18, who, along with the others, won a spot on the band this past season on the CW star search series Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious.

Anderson is all sass and energy on the phone from her hometown of Los Angeles. She and her bandmates – Texan Nichole Gardova, 18, Chrystina Sayers, 20, from San Diego, Calif., and Natalie Nicole Mejia, 20, from West Covina, Calif. – will be performing their other, PG-titled single, "Like Me" at the MMVAs.

She knows next to nothing about Canada. Asked to name our current prime minister, and given three choices – Pierre Trudeau, Tim Horton and Stephen Harper – she chooses Tim Horton. Told that is the name of a doughnut store, she shouts, "Are you serious?"

She doesn't want to let her Canadian fans down. "Canadians like us more than the American people, which is crazy 'cause we live here," she says.

It could just be that the reality series was a bigger hit in Canada on MuchMusic than it was on the low-rated U.S. weblet, the CW.

Still, The Monkees proved you didn't need to be a TV ratings killer to be a force in the music business. Anderson says it was surreal sometimes being on a reality show. "It's weird when you wake up and there are cameras in your face," she says.

She felt she was portrayed fairly on the series. "You gotta look at it like this," she says. "You got realistic reactions to unrealistic situations. In my real life, if there were girls that I didn't like talking mess about me in my kitchen, I would go off on them."

She is genuinely thrilled to be at the MMVAs, Girlicious' first TV award show gig. "I'm excited that Rihanna and Flo Rida are going to perform," she says. "We did a song with Flo Rida and we've never met him before. Isn't that weird?"

She knows that not everybody in Canada loves Girlicious. The whole reality show deal raises skepticism among 15-year-olds like my son, who dismissed them as "more skankarellas, basically." The Pussycat Dolls link is also off-putting to many.

Anderson is surprisingly candid and aware of being packaged for pre-teens. "We do what we're told and go with the flow as new artists," she says.

Often dressed in booty shorts and fishnets, she sees the band dressing "a little bit more conservative" going forward. "I want a 10-year-old's mom to go buy our CDs and if we're you know, dressed like sluts, they're not going to do that."

Still, don't look for them in "grandpa sweaters" any time soon. As for the Toronto show, "We don't even know what we're going to be wearing when we go out there, but it's going to be sick, I know that."
