THE ROOTS killed it on David Letterman tonight! [VIDEO INSIDE!] I really enjoyed this performance. The energy reminded me of those extended Revolution jams from back in the day. I haven't really followed The Roots up 'til now so can someone recommend tracks to start out with??

The new album sounds great. Made a thread here: http://prince.org/msg/8/268833
Actually, you can't really go wrong with any of their stuff. BTW, got a link? Here they come on Letterman in 2006: http://www.youtube.com/wa...A_sFJSgNfA

Seconded. Just buy everything they own. Things Fall Apart seems to be a fan favorite, but Game Theory is actually my favorite. The Tipping Point is the only so-so one, but even that has great tracks on it.

I saw them live on their last tour.
Speaking as a fan of guitar-based music, not a rap fan AT ALL, they were AWESOME. CATCH THEM LIVE IF YOU GET CHANCE! This is not an exit

This would be an example of what I believe is authentic artistic music that is based in hip hop. These guys play instruments and have a great knowledge of classic soul, funk, r&b, and rock. This band is one of the only bright spots in the hip hop genre these days. I will check out the performance on youtube. Music is the best...

Yeah, Game Theory! & Phrenology
Though all of it is pretty nice.

I just listened to game theory today. I like all in the music.
Phrenology is awesome. I will probably pick up the new joint this week. The roots and common are of a handful of hip hop artists i even bother with. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

was listening to their new album earlier. it lost me after a couple of tracks . i was a HUGE roots fan a few years ago. that whole crew of, "neo soul" they used to call it, artists they had. erykah badu, d'angelo (fucking m.i.a. ), mos def, etc. pretty much all i used to listen to back in the day . everything before (and including, for the most part) phrenology , especially things fall apart . everything since (the tipping point had its moments though ). have yet to see them live. their shows look awesome! if only (some) of their albums had the same kind of intensity . For all time I am with you, you are with me.
