I am enjoying the album. Listened to it on my commute to work today, as loud as I could stand it, twice through. Pretty much love every thing except i don't quite care for violet hill. I agree that the beginning and ending are quite inspiring, wish it would go on to something else, but simply ends. My whole life I've been a Prince fan only, only buying his stuff. Few years ago when i heard clocks, I was so intriqued, I went and bought the album, I've been hooked on coldplay since. they are the only other artist in my collection besides prince, and some old school stuff. Good album, I am satisfied with the effort and I will continue to listen to it like i do all of the other coldplay albums. The only LOVE there is, IS the LOVE WE MAKE ~ Prince

I bought it, but I was a little disappointed. The Crowded House album I bought last year was a record/CD combo, but there were 2 bonus tracks on the vinyl version. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

In Rainbows is still better. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I actually like this album quite a bit, though I almost wish they'd do things that rock a bit more like Violet Hill.

In spite of myself, I really do like this album. I think Eno's production saves most of the songs from becoming "run of the mill Coldplay" music. Really, something like "Strawberry Swing", "Viva la Vida" and "42" without Eno's touch would fit pretty well on the prior 3 CDs.
But, with that said, he does rescue the album. I keep finding new sonic touches with each subsequent spin of the record. And I really REALLY fucking love "Violet Hill" "Lovers in Japan" and "Life in Technicolor". And the fact that "Viva la Vida" (the song) sounds like a U2 song doesn't really bother me that much; it just makes me more excited for the new Brian Eno produced U2 CD coming out in Oct/Nov. One caveat, Chris Martin definitely needs to learn to write lyrics. I know it's been said elsewhere, but the opening line of "42" makes me cringe. Come on, man. You've been around for almost a decade. Please take some time to perfect your art. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

That's probably my favorite line of the album. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

That's probably my favorite line of the album. I saw it used as someone's signature on another forum and couldn't believe it. It's just so obvious, isn't it? "Lost" is another song with pretty bland lyrics rescued by Eno's production. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

"Lost" is another song with pretty bland lyrics rescued by Eno's production. There's nothing inherently wrong with "obvious" or "direct." My two favorite songwriters are Stevie Wonder and Neil Finn. They're both undoubtedly excellent songwriters, but the former is fairly straightforward while the latter writes largely mysterious lyrics. There's plenty of room for both. That has always been Coldplay's weakness as a band. They've pretty much always had songs with banal lyrics saved by soaring melodies. [Edited 6/19/08 11:14am] The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

That's probably my favorite line of the album. It's an obvious lyric, but after the year I've had it spoke to me a ton.

For those of you who got this on vinyl did you get it at the store or did you half to order it on the website. I just went to BB near me and the store people looked at my like I had 3 heads when I asked for a vinyl copy. So I just ordered it off the website.
BTW, I have the CD and LOVE it. Best Coldplay album since Parachutes imo. Wasn't a big fan of X&Y...that one was a snore. this has got some life and is actually a little rockin (which is saying a lot for Coldplay).

They had them in the store, but I don't think they had that many. Upon further listens, I'm even more convinced that this is Coldplay's best album. [Edited 6/21/08 16:11pm] "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

"Yes" is a great song.
So is "Violet Hill"(not to be confused with Harrowdown Hill ) I'm really enjoying this album. Brian Eno def. saved them from themselves by forcing them to rethink their song structures. A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.
