I wonder if Madonna kept all her ancient clothes; as a kid how fun would that be to play in? Madonna has said there is a warehouse in Hollywood that has all of her clothes, labeled with what it was worn too, the date, and various things like that. We in the Philippines can now buy the CD and at exactly 6pm Madonna fans trooped to Music One and attended the listening party which was followed by..of course our chance to buy the CD.
A fan since 1984, I never expected that she can still (or will ever) go back to the pop Madonna soundscape that I once heard and knew so well. Ever since Like A Prayer, she tried just about everything to prove herself musically. Now, she just wants to have fun and without (I guess) knowing it, produced an album that will be (in time) considered one of her grooviest. 1. Candy Store – Perfect album opener and prepared us for what we will hear. The signature Pharrell sound’s present here but when Madge starts singing about candy with that combined low and high registers, you know that she practically “stole” the song from P. 2. 4 Minutes – What usually can be found in just one album are all in this amazing song. Energetic and addictive, and okay…....what is it about? Exactly…trademarks of a perfect pop song. 3. Give It 2 Me – Now how about that? Took Madonna to push P to this territory. Ray of Light-ish minus the philosophical and religious themes. In short…fun, fun, fun. She gives us Filipinos something to have fun with, since the break features music that is taken from our "Singkil" dance. I guess since Pharrell has a Filipino bandmate (for NERD), he was introduced to this sound and decided to use this for this Madonna song. It is one of our old dances. While she sings "Get stupid..." someone commented that it doesn't sound like Nelly Furtado, but it sounds like Madonna from Thief of Hearts. Exactly...! 4. Heartbeat – It’s co-produced by Price…no by Mirwais…huh….she did this with Pharrell? My thoughts when I heard the track. And P sounds so deliciously hot when he sings the “Hey….” Or “It’s Alright…..” parts. For Madonna, oh God only He knows how much I missed the ridiculously sweet vocals of Madonna. Touches every note with passion. I believed her when she said “It may feel old to you, but for me it is new…” or something like that. 5. Miles Away – awwwww…………………………..that voice again. Full of longing. A classic Madonna song and what a wonderful way to end the song with that breakdown. It’s like a “…to be continued” vibe. And this is the beginning of the musical epic-esque look at a relationship. 6. She’s Not Me – Part II of the epic portion. I can now see the club queens singing (or doing the lip synch routine) to this song. I am doing it right now… (She's Not Me....She doesn't have my name....okay girls the finger movements...the finger movements....) Then all of a sudden….it’s now a rock song…..then back to…..whistles ala Chic or Donna Summer…..? Pharrell and Madonna made sure that before you get to where this song is going to, they will throw something at you and floor you. With Miles Away, Madonna senses that there's something missing, here she knows what wrong with the relationship. 7. Incredible – Part III of the epic. This is (for me) the best song in the album. Similar to the vibe of “Till Death Do Us Apart” (from Like A Prayer) and both about…the hubby? This song took me home when it became an arena-stomper type of song. With Madonna singing “IncredibaHLLLLL” (which sounds like "Materiallll..." in Material Girl) and Pharrell singing “Uhhh…”” or something. Amazing! Here she misses the sex (?) or the intimacy. So she ends the epic with a plea for a hook-up. "Let's finish what we started...." 8. Beat Goes On – Probably the song with the most soul and perfect with the eternal Madonna themes: Celebration, Running Out of Time, and Being a Star. 9. Dance 2Night – This for me is like the filler. However, it is still good, but no signs of any Madonna trademark. 10. Spanish Lessons – This is definitely one of the campiest songs she has ever created. I guess Madonna was having the time of her life when she was recording “Senorita……………..I just want to fall in love” I love it. I also love the “work…work…work…” part. And the part where Pharell sound likes a mosquito that passes by your ear, it’s weird and gives a different kind of rush. 11. Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You – Great song with equally great lines. 12. Voices – Starting out like “Thief of Hearts,” this song is similar to the “Secret Garden” vibe but with an amazing ending. Yes, Madonna has mastered the art of ending an album with a dark song. But like all dark Madonna songs, this one shines. I bought 4 copies. One for me at home, one for me at the office, one for me while travelling, and one just in case one of the aforementioned copies gets lost. Wonderful album! Her most accessible album since True Blue and Like a Prayer. ....I miss my best friend...

I'm really starting to love this album now.
Don't know why, but it reminds me of the vibe of Erotica

I've listened to he whole thing about 7 times now and it's growing on me. The first half seems stronger than the second half but i wonder if that isn't just a matter of the chosen arrangement of the songs. If I pick out a track by itself it often sounds more interesting than within the order of the album.

I don't want to be repetitive, but I believe I'm the only one who has expressed concern about Madonna's current style . I mean, we still have Tori Amos or Roisin Murphy, but I'm really disappointed because Madonna has left behind any artistic/experimental ambition, now she's a pop tart (is it 1984 all over again or what?)...

Well though there is filler here and there, its light years more interesting than Janet's and Mariah's. Janet's didnt hold my interest for long at all, a track or two that i still listen to without skipping. As for Mariah, it was a better record than MIMI but thats not saying much since MIMI, despite its Chart success, was not that good of a record, it had ALOT of filler. But Madonna is just more interesting as usual, for good or bad. i'd be more concerned if Madonna put out another Confessions. however she isn't turning out the same album time after time like Janet or Mariah You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

OTOH, I loved Confessions so much that a part of me wishes we had gotten a sequel. I loved everything about that album (including the 4 b-sides/outtakes). because it's completely unremarkable in any way shape or form. and that's saying something for this album. but it's lacking that spark of fun that the rest of it's got. I'm missing my best friend Yes it was Incredible There's no reason to pretend
