Victor Wooten 4/25 Crash Mansion LA Good funky show at Crash Mansion back on Friday. Not too packed but it was an enthusiastic crowd. Lots of jazz in the proceedings but it was funky and rockin' show.
The core of the band is still Vic on bass, Bros Regi on guitar and Joseph on keys. Plus Anthony Wellington on 2nd bass, Derico Watson on drums and Saundra Wiilliams on vocals. There was a new additon: possibly an Iranian guy playing a funky blue violin, thumps djembe and does that throat-warbling singing. Amir Ali, I think. Tunes were mostly from the new album PALMYSTERY. Here's the setlist: 2 Timers Cambo What U Gonna Say I Saw God The Gospel feat Joseph Wooten (keys) Left Right Center feat Derico Watson (drums) Tear from my Soul (?) feat Saundra Wililams (vocals) Sifu feat Regi Wooten (guitar) Vic solo jamming Flex feat Anthony Wellington (2nd bass) >> Encore pause << Miss U There were some sit-ins. A keyboardist with solid chops dug in on Joseph's feature and some bald white comedian (they yukked it up a bit) sat in on drums for a cover of "Play That Funk Music". Don't ask names cuz that's faded. Showed ended about 11:45 PM. They all hung to sign CDs and pose and greet fans. There was an OK-sounding opening band "Blue James"; kind of got a Dave Matthews feel. CM-LA is a good sounding room. George Clinton is booked for June 5, 2008. I missed a great oppty for pics, but my battery charger got misplaced. test

Man, what i like best about this setlist is no MC Divinity 10 minute Freestyle.
I think Palmystery is a vast improvement over the last one. The guests on it are impressive list.

tA hmmmmm I'm sure I mentioned "Family Band"; I was trying to get you to commit. Maybe I just forgot. Too many things going on for me to really have made it anyway. I've had to turn down free tickets to Bon Jovi (no great loss outside of asking Takumi about his former employer) & Sly over the past few weeks. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Has anyone signed up with Victor Wooten's music club? It looks interesting.
Just wondering what kind of unreleased work is exclusive on there.

Vic was sick! Great band, great show. That guy never stops wowing me. Good lord.
I thought the opening band "Blue James Band" was awesome. I expected to see some instrumental vic wannabe's but they rocked it and actually held their own musically. Does anyone know this band? This is the first I've heard of them, but they have an album out and are apparently releasing another one in the summer. Great night!

Their bass player, Brian Levine, is a very good friend and we all had a great time watching his hero play after their opening set. I'll have to relay your comments to them!
