Caldera (w/ EW&F's Larry Dunn) - "Sky Islands"

...

Caldera was a Latin/Fusion/Funk outfit in the 70's, helmed by keyboardist Eddie Del Barrio, who co-wrote Earth, Wind and Fire tunes Like "Fantasy" and "Miracles", guitarist Jorge Strunz (later, of Strunz and Farrah) and saxist Steve Tavaglione...Their second album, Sky Islands, was co-produced by EWF keyboardist Larry Dunn (who also co-wrote, and plays keys and synths here) and also features a young Dianne Reeves on vocals...

(Earth Wind and Fire recorded a version of Seraphim as an interlude, but it wasn't released until recently, as a bonus track on the "Spirit" CD...)

Sky Islands

Seraphim

Ancient Source (Dianne Reeves -vocals)

Pegasus

I have always LOVED this album!! The two albums that followed only had one or two tracks that I liked, but not as a whole like this one. But, you andI both like Lonette's "Words & Music." I ripped a lot of music from that era for my ipod!! I can host one hell of a "quiet storm" radio show! lol
1974-1980- great years for comtemporary jazz/fusion, quiet storm and R&B.

I agree, I think Sky Islands (their second album) is their best...not sure why they haven't put this one out on disc yet--they did release their debut album on CD, but, IMO, it aint quite as Kool....

Btw, Dianne Reeves later did her own version of "Sky Islands" for her debut Blue Note album.....
