Adam Ant!

How come he doesn't get more credit in music? People never talk about how great he is and influential. His look and sound was so unique. Not to mention he was fine as hell. I only got into him last year and I have Prince Charming, Manners and Physique and Strip (which is not too great). Can someone point me in the right direction for the next one to pick up? How about Dirk wears white socks?

like b-sides or like demo songs
its has a S&M influence that earlier adam and the ants had.

sounds post-punkish(thought this term is a bit of an umbrella term.

Adam Ant has made some great music, and sure does deserve a lot more credit than he gets. The reason I don't think he gets any credit, is because he's seen by many in the media as nothing more than an early 1980's teen pin up who made music for kids.

The thing is the music he made which I say was directed at kids and teenage girls is great music, and still sounds brilliant to this day. I've listened to Adam Ant since I was a child in the early 1980's, and even know I have his music on my iPod.

If you like Prince Charming I'd try

Kings of the Wild Frontier
Friend or Foe

They're the most similar in style, particularly Kings. Classic album!

Dirk Wears White Sox is my personal favorite, but it's more rock/light punk.

I think his biggest mistake, and the reason he's not more respected was that he let his image become more important than the music. It helped make him a star, but lost him any credibility once the sugary taste wore off with the public.

It happens with every artist, they fall out of favor, but if you're a Prince, you can always fall back on the music.

He also never had any huge hits in America, and the biggest ones were fairly fluffy, like Goody Two Shoes & Strip. I respect him musically to this day, but he was never the most serious of artists.

Turns out, he also has some personal issues, and that may be something that affected his whole career.

Dirk is the one I'd play for friends and they wouldn't know who it was. It's cool rock & roll.

Kings has that charm of Prince Charming. It's creative & goofy.

They're my two favorites of his, so I don't think you can go wrong either way. But they are very different.
