I don't get what the big deal is about "touch my body".. that song is literally one of mariah's worst released singles... and her worst unmemorable number 1....

I know this.. that if janet came with that crap.. Touch my body.. . it would have gone NOWHERE and people would have called janet out for making something that stupid.. but its mariah.. and "she can't do NO wrong">..

kiss2 For you PP4

anyways.. i have always said "POPULARITY is what sells albums".. NOT The music..

and now i believe image as well...

it also doesn't help that radio is playing TMB like crazy.. so if thats all you hear.. that is what you will eventually like and tolerate...

have you guys heard of the term... "mere exposure phenomenon" that means: people tend to like things that are more familiar to them, even if they were not that keen on them initially...

im not exposed to the "mere exposure phenomenon".. with music cause i don't listen to the radio... so when i hear crap.. i do NOT tolerate it...

im sorry i was just using a marketing term... but its sooo true... you might not initially like something at first.. but when you are exposed to it over time. .you get used to it.. and like it.. because people tend to like things they are more familiar with...

and music is a great example... of "mere exposure phenomenon"

I agree with you. I just don't understand why Janet isn't killing folks right now. Part of me think it's the Jackson name. To me she is as popular as anybody else and there are women her age and older who are getting rotation. I don't know. I give up in trying to figure it out. Now Madonna's tour is kicking off on the same date. I hope she doesn't get overshadowed.

Can't Be Good is a great choice..for a second single. The obvious first single choice was LUV..one of Janet's best songs in recent memory.

.. are you SERIOUS.... this can't be true. i really hope they don't tour at the same time.. cause it won't be fair.. janet will start getting compared to madonna... GO to janet's message board and she is being compared to mariah....

and during the fall when she starts her tour.. i know she will be compared to madonna...

Janet toured at the exact same time as madonna for all her tours except Velvet Rope, remember? I wouldn't worry about that, both are praised for bringing in bucks while on tour whenever they do it at the same time.

"Luv" should have been as huge as Mariah's "Touch My Body"

With a video and the right promotion, it would have been a GREAT single...what a wasted hit..

Can't Be Good is one of the weaker tracks off the album in my opinion

Luv can still be a single. They only sent it to Urban, not Rhythmic or Top 40. If they did a great video for the summer and sent it to Top 40 and Rhythmic, and it did well, they could easily send it back to Urban and have a multi-format smash.

I dont understand Def Jam's promotion. New videos should have been out by now. There are many good tracks on this album. I luv Janet but I think she has become complacent. Discipline is my song of the moment although i doubt a video for this could be aired on public tv. Songs like LUV, 2nite, So Much betta should have had videos done, and she needs to reunite with Shawnette and Tina Landon.

I still love the album too and wish more was done with it. I know people who haven't been into janet for years that are feeling the album

Can't Be Good and What's Your Name definitely made me think of Off the Wall era mj too.

That's actually one of my only complaints about this album. Not that specifically, but it's about the ballads. It seems like there's 2 of every one of them. "Can't Be Good" and "What's Your Name" seem somewhat similar in my mind. "Never Letchu Go" and "Greatest X" kind of morph into the same song for me as well. "Discipline" and "Curtains" aren't really that similar, but they fill a similar role on the album (plus they're back to back and close the album).

This album could have really been tightened up a little bit by axing something of the repeat-sounding ballads.

I love most of the ballads on the album, they were well written and produced. I agree that Never Letchu Go and Greatest Ex being back to back could have been changed though.

Her ballads are weak this time. Even when I don't like the other stuff I can usually count on her making ONE decent slow song I like from each album. I'm not getting that on this one. I like Curtains but it's not slow enough to qualify.

Control has "Funny How Time Flies"
Rhythm Nation has "Someday Is Tonight"
Janet has "Any Time, Any Place"
Velvet Rope has "Anything" & "Rope Burn" (& "I Get Lonely", borderline slow)
All For You has "Truth" (not really slow, but I only grabbed a few songs from that album)...
never bought Damita Jo...
20YO has "Take Care" & "Love 2 Love"

Discipline got jacked for ballads, those shits are WEAK...

I agree. When all else fails I could always count on a ballad or baby-maker and I’m not feeling anything from Discipline. I really dislike the title track actually. Curtains is just sorta there and like you said not slow enough to really qualify. They both feel sorta forced.

i bet you are on of the people who bought MC's new album.. and she literally have 5 songs that use that same beat... that are remixes of TMB...

so people need to stop being so hard of on jay.. cause there are many artist that have the same sound songs on their album..

Eminem.. had two songs on his album that literally had the same melody its just one was slowed down and the other sped up..

I think "Feedback" peaked at 19. Not bad. It had been in the Itunes Top ten that week the album was out. Much like Madonna, it is radio play which is prevents the song from going higher.

I like "Never Letchu Go" as far as ballads, but the album is sort of loaded with them for an album that was supposed to be a return to dance. It's a good album, it has singles, but I think they already blew their load on the upbeat pop songs as singles, right? Is there anything left?

soo true... the album has nice songs.. BUT.. there are one two many songs that are terrible and makes the album... less solid... like if janet were to get ride of like three songs on the album and even replace them with mediocre songs.. that album could have been solid

wow you never got Damita jo.. that album was one of her best.. she had so many nice tracks on that album.... Island life, Just a little while, sexhibition, rnb junkie, all night dont stop...

actually when i pop in a janet album in the car.. i go for damita jo... my friend just likes janet cause its janet.. he doesn't know to much about her music.. i don't even think he really tries to like janet's music.. but i got him addicted to damita jo...

i think the problem is.. people just don't want to let themselves like janet as an artist... she literally has been the same same since the "janet" album.. her style is always the same... i don't understand why people who claim they are rel fans.. don't like her music anymore...

i think its a bunch of baloney
