LONDON - Amy Winehouse was arrested on suspicion of assault Friday following reports that she scuffled with two men during a wild night out, Sky News television reported.

The 24-year-old soul diva, who recently entered rehab after years of erratic behaviour and cancelled concerts, arrived at a central London police station to answer questions relating to the alleged incident, her representatives said.

Police didn't directly confirm that Winehouse was in custody, saying only that a 24-year-old woman was being held on suspicion of assault. British authorities don't usually name suspects until they have been charged.

Winehouse didn't say anything to assembled photographers and cameramen as she walked into the station late Friday afternoon. Sky News said she would spend the night in custody.

A man was quoted in tabloid newspapers as saying he was hit by Winehouse when he got in her way while she was playing pool at a bar in the Camden neighbourhood and then head-butted another who was trying to hail her a cab in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Winehouse and her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, were arrested in the Norwegian city of Bergen in October and held overnight on charges of drug possession. A video of her allegedly smoking crack hit the Internet shortly before she won five Grammys this year for her critically acclaimed album "Back to Black."

She was arrested in London in December on suspicion of attempting to interfere with a court case involving Fielder-Civil, but earlier this year police said prosecutors were no longer pursuing the affair.

Fielder-Civil faces charges of perverting the course of justice stemming from a case in which he is accused of assaulting a barman.

Forget the assault, she can start sorting herself out by getting somebody to hook her hair up right. I understood when she first got famous and wanted to play rebel-anti-fashion. But how the HELL do you live in London, you been around artistic and ethnic minorities, and your hair is this fucked up after 20 million dollars? Amy Winehouse been getting in fights and has been busting people upside they heads since she was a teenager, so that in itself is a NON-STORY. But excuse me, I have a black, Jewish, Southern born and raised auntie that is EXACTLY the Rhonette prototype Winehouse wants to be: She might be 75 years old, and we might have JUST BROKEN her from that Motown-Florence-Jean-Castelbury "Alice" wig when she was 67, but I'll be GAT DAMNED if Auntie didn'T ALWAYS have her "do" in place or her Ebony Fashion Fair make-up UNSMUDGED as soon as she stepped outside of her door. And she was the biggest cigarette smoking, bourbon drinking person I had ever seen in my life, so I'm not allowing the boozy-druggy factor in as an excuse for AW. How do you go from playing dates alongside Herbie Hancock and Terrance Blanchard and being able to keep up with THEM to THIS?... Heffa needs to get her shit together, for real;legally, physically and artistically.

oh my I wish all of this would just end for her. There's so much potential there and she's squandering it

Yes. She definitely is one of the most interesting new artists in the music biz and her voice is one of a kind. It is so tragic when such a gifted person is so uncapable of handling her life and is throwing it all away.
Either she's gonna surprise us all one day and get her act together or her life is going to have that tragic rock star ending.
I hope it's the first.

But I must give her props for being able to sound so good on stage while being so damn high. That's a talent in it's own right.

She's been working for 6 years to critical acclaim on her own stomping grounds of the United Kingdom and Europe, and has a net worth of 20 million dollars... she can barely handle THAT psychologically, it doesn't seem making it big in international mainsream music might be the best move for her . Having been really familiar with pre- international fame Winehouse, and this beehived monster we currently see as a tabloid fixture, it appears that making it big is exactly what's killing her.

As a (hopefully) positive sidenote, her dad has spoken in public recently that he and his ex-wife Janis (Amy's mum, who suffers from MS) have exausted all resources and are seeking to have her comitted because they're afraid she's going to die. I heard a statement via radio, but will try to find a proper link.
