Nay
All her 80s stuff is overrated, its a Jacksonesque rip off. Donna was it in the 70s, but the 80s she was just following trends and the religious homophobic crap didn't help 17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince

I wouldn't give it a nay, but I can't quite give it a yay either. Hearing Q's production on this gives me a nice nostalgic feeling, but that chorus is a bit annoying. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

Definite Yay.
The Quincy Jones/Rod Temperton connection is quite evident. Could have easily been an MJ tune. Hell, he might even be singing background. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

The high notes give it away in the backing vocals.

Other than "The Wanderer", Donna mostly played it safe in the eighties. The homophobic stuff was denied and she even won a case against a magazine that made a strong accusation.

The high notes give it away in the backing vocals. James Ingram and Howard Hewitt are credited as background vocalists on this song, but yeah,I bet Michael is on the song as well That's another thing I love about this album: there are so many great people involved.Truly legendary artists like Herbie Hancock,Ernie Watts and of course, the all-star choir on "State Of Independence".

Two great Rod Temperton songs featuring Patti Austin. That whole CD by Donna is nice. I used to play the Steve Lukather "pick part" in Love Is In Control" as an exercise.
