I didn't grow up listening to Etta, but since I quit listening to the radio, I decided to buy old music that I've never heard. I got an Etta James hits CD yesterday, and I love it. Etta would be in a class with Mavis Staples, Phyllis Hyman, and even Rosie Gaines. They have deep, powerful voices. Beyonce is okay, but she can't swing it. Sorry!!!! If any of you get a chance to hear "I'd rather go blind" live, it's the bomb. Then, you'll see what I'm talking about.
