Curtis and Superfly are essential albums, theyre simply brilliant. Then get Roots and Sweet Exorcist. Theres also some good compilations out there Anthology is the best one.

Well, pretty much anything from Curtis (1970) up to Never Say You Can't Survive (1977). I'm sure the albums after that are good too, but I haven't heard them yet so I won't recommend them wink
These two are my personal favorites

It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Obviously the 1st Stop on your journey should be the record that every soul/funk lover should own in their collection..
the ESSENTIAL !!!!
Superfly Album !

When I was kid I didnt even know a Household that didnt have this album sitting in the pile of LPs..JUST GET IT !!!!!
After that..there's a world of great Curtis stuff..a lot of people Dig his work with the Impressions..
I like that stuff but I REALLY DIG the stuff that he released on his own CURTOM label..
If it was released in the 70s and on CURTOM records..Or Produced by Curtis in the 70s..You can be sure to hear some sweet soul..and some funky wah wah grooves...
After Superfly my favorite albums of his are probably the soundtrack for the movie
"lets do it again" performed by one of my all time favorite groups "The Staple Singers"

& The soundtrack to the movie
CLAUDINE performed by Gladys knight and the pips..

All these records are CLASSICS ! they all are essential if you want some Curtis Soul !
Enjoy ! cool

This may be going backwards but I'm a big fan of Curtis' final recording, New World Order.

Since I grew up on his music (starting with The Impressions in '63) to me the evolution of Curtis Mayfield's oevure has been like the mellowing of a fine wine.

There's a certain cohesive vibe on New World Order that just makes me feel the man's love. No matter how many times I play it there are moments on that record that just make me stop whatever I'm doing and pay total attention to the music.

In a kind of strange way, I compare Curtis to Bob Marley (who has covered a few of Curtis' tunes) in that they both had a very strong social message in a lot of their compositons.

Curtis' output was so strong and so diverse over the years that I think the best way to get into him would be to search out some "best of" anthologies that chronicle various time periods and digest them in order.

The man was such a sweet and wise soul; you will be richly rewarded if you pursue his music this way.

I've always felt that Price's paen to Curtis was Adore on SOTT.
