Did you guys know Whitney`s "Saving all my love for you" was a cover originally recorded by Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr. in 1978

Yeah and so was "I Will Always Love You" as did by Dolly Parton  PEACE.....It does not mean 2 be in a place where there is no noise,trouble,or hardwork.It means 2 be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart !  | |

Yes. As hard already been mentioned, she has recorded a lot of covers and turned them into hits (or taken minor hits and turned them into major ones).

Yes, it was. This is also the reason why you do not DARE mention Whitney's name in Marilyn's presence. Her version was recorded long before Whitney's and was pulled back from release so that Whitney's could be released first. That one I knew for a while because I think George Benson has a minor hit with it. Surprised the public doesn't seem to be aware of that one at all, though. Considering how many of her early and signature hits are covers, she was sort of always thought of as a vocalist and not really a pop star. I think she attempted to go back to that half heartedly with "Just Whitney" and a passable cover of "You Light Up My Life" but it got a little complicated when the first single was an attempt at hip-hop pop with "Whatchulookinat". When? Like in the late ninties that time she was booed during the Soul Train awards or something? I think when she came out with a real attempt at a modern R&B/pop album like "My Love Is Your Love", with the remixes, it really did end up taking off and showing her in a new light....however, it didn't last beyond that when they trouted out the greatest hits and none of the celebrity duets did anything on the US charts. If anything, that almost returned her too much to her safe past. | |

vainandy told me once, but then he went into this whole diatribe about how he liked Whitney's version way better, how under-rated she was, how he thought her range was even wider that the American plaines & that she shoulda hooked up with Ralph Tresvant instead of Bobby, blah blah blah.... I did't know it at the time it was released. I was still in my teens, and the songs my parents played from Marilyn & Billy were their 5th Dimension hits. The only song my mother ever played from them as a duo was "You Don't Have To Be A Star (To Be In My Show)"  | |
