NIN- DISCIPLINE (New SINGLE)

I guess it was debuted on radio without any advance notice and it was mastered yesterday by Alan Moulder. Trent did it again.

This should have been the title track to Janet's album "Discipline"

http://www.zshare.net/aud...80bd4d6b0a

from the NIN Hotline:

Check out these reports, and if your local rock station plays NIN stuff, maybe you should tune in today, or call and ask them if they'll follow suit:

Katrina says: FM 102.1 (WLUM) in Milwaukee is debuting a new NIN song today that actually has words.

Alexander: a single "discipline" just got released to radio today. it was mastered yesterday.

Jim: I was just driving in Seattle and 107.7 The End just played a new NIN song called "Discipline".

Nancy: i just heard a new song on KROQ in LA called Disapline. wtf is this about I have not heard anything about a new song with words!!!

It appears this song was sent to radio stations across the United States, and most of them played it between 2:30 and 2:45pm Eastern Time, resulting in a bit of a flood of very surprised emails headed our way. The song was mastered by Alan Moulder yesterday afternoon, and turned over to radio stations less than 24 hours later!

It's decent, but it's nothing memorable. It never really goes anywhere. It kinda sounds like another "The Hand That Feeds."

And, once again, came completely out of nowhere.
And FREE to boot.
Like another orger said... It's a good time to be a NIN fan.
BTW, how cool is it that Alan Moulder just mastered this yesterday, and gave it to us today? Very cool. cool
Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Prince can take all the notes he wants. Anything he sends to radio stations with out a payment or the promise of an exclusive interview will get used as a coaster for their hosts Red Bull energy drinks.

That would have been hot. With her album cover I actually thought it woulda sounded more like this than what she dished out.

Anyhoo, I like it. It’s not great but its good.

Yeah riiightt. And that's why some of his recent singles like "Call My Name", "Black Sweat", and "Future Baby Mama" were displayed in R&R - Radio & Records, Inc receiving some of the most spins when they were released. They may not be played on most f'd up radio stations in L.A., but there is a nation (and world) out there where Prince's music is still played without payola and/or an interview.

seriously, prince is fucking up massively these days compared to trent. could prince release an album for free, with no marketing, and still make $750,000 in a few days? i doubt it. lol

i'm liking the new single - his vocals are a lot more "pop" in places than i'm used to from NIN, which is fun. it's not the most catchy single he's ever released, but i like it and i can see it growing on me. hell, considering it was a free download, it's freakin brilliant. thumbs up!

co-sign... in fact, the argument can be made that prince albums have actually gotten worse with every year.

How much did we pay for that "Guitar" demo single again???

I love the use of piano in such a fast pace album... it has his signature sound all over.

The problem is that Prince is still trying to find his angle, despite having been doing this for a while. Album give-aways with tickets and newspapers... NPG Music Club was a step in the right direction, but ultimately choice was taken out of it. Pay the nebulous ticket, take whatever ride P gives you. Trent's not holding back quality due to trying to sell a physical album later. There's a big similarity in the fact that they're both, sales-wise, preaching to the choir. As good as they both are, it's gonna take a lot to get a #1. So, what do you do? You find your fanbase, you give them what they want (and what you're willing to give) and then the radio charts don't mean shit. Sell the album direct first, get the money from your die-hards, and worry about everyone else later. P still wants to deal with a record label, which is OK if he watches his deal, but the free-enterprising, techno-savvy P of days of old is essentially dead. He's playing to the dinosaurs. Give something for free to get the masses going ("discipline"/"pfunk"- regardless of the possible FU to the fans that it was) and get the gears in the machine working. Let people share it. Don't count on BET and radio to do your shit for you. Do interviews.

apples and oranges, i think. people are still buying the radiohead single, as evidenced by the tons of remix submissions on their site. good for trent for doing it for free, but good for radiohead for making some money. it's their job, after all. shrug
