My guess is this list aren't the BIG albums but the neat ones the fans really like. My only ??? here is Odelay, which it is a cool album, but I think there is a better choice than that.

I usually cringe at these lists, especially from rolling stone.

But. I think this one is pretty good. All the artists have a good vibe, and there are not many albums that I would classify as bad

It could have been a lot worse.

Plus they picked the right Velvets album at the top and "1999" is indeed Princey-boy's "coolest" album.

What are these lists based on. hmm

"cool"? That's an abstract concept.

God, I hate Rolling Stone's lists.

This list is designed to give credit to albums that don't make their normally inane lists, so I'll let them be this go round.

I'll give credit to Rolling Stone on these selections, ESPECIALLY for Done By The Forces of Nature, one of the very greatest hip-hop albums of all time. While their Natives Tongues colleagues De La Soul and a Tribe Called Quest got more recognition for their debut albums during this time, this albums stacks up very well, and ages as well if not better over time.

This is a cool selection, but since the label squelched the release of Theme from "Jack Johnson" (it chose to promote "Live at Fillmore[/b], probably becuse it had a higher markup as a two-fer). This was Miles big dip into guitar-driven funk and it has a major underground cult following to this day.

They had to add her somewhere even if it is a shit record. It's like Rolling Stone is contractually obliged to put Madonna and Michael Jackson in every poll they do, even if it does not fit.

i think they stayed up all night drunkenly picking things out of the rolling stone swag vault at random, then they made a list out of it.

even at random, I wouldn't pick Wowee Zowee! by Pavement..... neutral not that it's a bad record, but certainly not their best!

Crooked Rain should have been the Pavement pick. It is about the same critical caliber as Odelay, and college DJs still play it.

Not to mention any Pavement album in your library shows some cool (in the manner this thread implies). Even the most popular one is fairly obscure.
