Yael Naim - Will she make it big?

Allmusic.com says:
Born in Paris in 1978. (...) Adding Aretha Franklin and Joni Mitchell to her list of influences, Naïm soon found herself playing shows with Winton Marsalis' backing musicians in Tel Aviv (where she had moved at the age of four). (...) Second album, Yael Naïm. Released in October of 2007, the album contained songs in French, English, and Hebrew, and included a surprising cover in Britney Spears' "Toxic." Critical acclaim and chart success followed — the album hit number 11 in France and broke the top forty in Switzerland — and in 2008, Naim's song "New Soul" was used in a commercial for Apple's new MacBook Air computer.

The single New Soul:

I'm guessing only some Frenchies will know about her. Anyhow, I'm quite impressed so far. The single is quite easy or accessible, but she has some mean ballads, has a nice voice and plays multiple instruments. What do you think?

I guess the better question is how well she will do in the US.She's already a pretty solid artist on the indie circuit in EU countries like France, Germany, ect...also North Africa (she was raised in Isreal but born in the North African country of Tunesia, which is how I imagine she ended up in France somewhere in between)...she'll have a career, but who knows if she's interested in persuing something long term in the U.S. shrug

She's doing well in the EU? Nice. About the US, yeah, I'm wondering. Have people heard of her in the US?

She was actually born in Paris, France to Tunesian/Israeli parents, raised in Israel. I think she lives in France now. She's touring France, Belgium and Holland the next few months...

New Soul was a top 10 hit in the US, thanks to downloads after the Apple commercial.

I was totally intrigued after hearing it on the ad, but when I finally saw the full video, the preciousness of it all was a bit much.

She'll do well internationally, but I doubt she'll make too many waves in the US. Even with "New Soul" on the Mac commercials, her sales here are less than impressive, and the "Toxic" cover is a novelty. She's good, but not something much of the US market is into.

Holland? Too bad we can't go to the show together, I really want to check this out. I take the train to Holland sometimes, and a several times a year they have a ticket special for 17 euros each way. It cost me that much to get to concert halls in downtown Hamburg mad ...I wonder if I could fit one of those dates into a daytrip hmmm

Oh, and BTW, thanks for the correction/clarification on her bio: I saw her interview in passing on the Swiss/French language tv station here in Germany, and just got the interpretation ALL twisted err err err

I can see how trying to understand the french/tunesian/israeli background in Switzerdeutsch can be confusing... lol lol

Holland show is cancelled btw.
